I'm in dire financial strain at moment, i cant pay my esb bills which are already over due, its only 300 euro but its money i cant come up with. my rent is due in a matter of days and I'm hundreds short i cant afford to live properly to eat properly I'm SO stressed out from this.

I'm actually half contemplating going out tonight and mugging someone to help my debt. i am by no means a scumbag or violent person. how do i deal with this situation!!

You grow up for a start, was going to offer constructive advice until I got to that point. Go out and mug someone, at least then you wont have bills or rent to pay, because they'll be state provided.

Hey, I feel for your situation and you are not the only one right now with financial problems.

You need to get control of your finances and the first rule when budgeting where your money is going is Food, Rent and Electricity are priorities in every month. All other debts and expenses are not paid till these three are covered.

You need to sit down each month and write out your income and then expenses and stick to that no matter what!! If things are still tight maybe moving to a cheaper place is an idea, a second job in a fast food place or delivering pizza might be needed for a few months to get your head above water.

For the current bills, pay the esb as you don't want to be cut off. Your option then is to pay as much as you can afford to your landlord and tell them that you are a little tight this month but will make up the rest next month.

I know I am not much help but its going to take huge commitment and sticking to a budget. Cutting back in all areas except for the 3 priorities!

Go to your local MABS. Pay the ESB 25% now and a bit a week. Talk to your landlord, but don't expect him to waive the rent. Take a look at non-essentials: Do you have a car, smoke, things like this?

OP maybe you can offer some explanation as to how you got there. Apart from anything else it'll also help you see how you might get control of it. My advice as well is to talk to all the people/organisation you owe money to. Find out what they want or how they might be able to help you. Mostly they don't want the hassle of cutting you off or trying to find another tenant. You'll should get some feeling of relief from just doing that. The stress is often worse because you end up imagining something truly awful. And then you need to plan how to get through this period or get out of your current difficulties.

Hi Op, firstly I don't believe for a second that you would mugg anyone so heres my advice. The ESB are well used to people getting into financial difficulty, the most important thing is to contact them and explain...Do Not Ignore them. You will be able to make an agreement and pay it off and will feel great relief for doing so. However if you make an arrangement you must stick to it or you will be cut off. Are you unemployed? Maybe your CWO can help with a once off payment to get you back on your feet.

Please contat the citizens advice office, they are very helpful and might be able to liase with the ESB for you or other companies. I was once in your situation with little support and a small baby so I feel for you, I contacted St. Vincent de Paul once because I couldn't afford a TV licence and was freaked out by TV ads. A lovely man came to my house and gave me some money towards it. I never forget them for it and also donate to them now that circumstances have changed. There are thousands like you despairing, It will get better but its up to you to cut yor costs and stick to a tight budget because nothing is worse the stress that you are experiencing...i know all about it. Good luck

    Community Welfare officer

Money advice and budjeting service (MABS)

    Citazens advice

You dont need to pay all the money for the ESB now!
