    rubbish redefined by different rubbish.....

definitely maybe, morning glory and even the masterplan are better than anything blur have done.
    ... in your opinion.
the fact that oasis could have done knebworth 15 nights in a row such was the demand says enough, what did blur do??
If popularity was a measure of an artist/group's quality, Westlife would be considered musical geniuses.

By the way, does anyone agree with me that The Masterplan is... grand? It may be all earnest and epic with a big anthemic chorus, but that doesn't automatically make it the masterpiece people regularly say it is.

i agree to some extent especially concerning record sales but when it comes to selling out gigs i do think the amount that is sold correlates to the quality of the band playing.
2.6 million people applied for knebworth tickets - in or around 1 in 20 brits

By this logic the best quality acts of this year are U2 and Take That since both are playing Croke Park.

So? That still means 95% of the population didn't give a **** about Oasis...

I jest. The numbers were impressive. Adds absolutely nothing to the quality of their, or any other bands, music though

agreed , you can't use the numbers thing say how good a band is because most people don't have a clue about music and you could use the westlife arguement.... oasis wrote some classic songs and i will always love their first two albums but in terms of style diversity and dynamics blur walk all over them as nearly every oasis song is mid paced....but you can here on say park life influences from crass to wire to the the byrds with loads of tempo changes and of course great catchy tunes.....

for this reason i think blur are a better band overall.....

in a way yes. U2 are one of the best bands the world has seen, even if they do have a terrible album or two. Take that are one of the best POP acts on sale at the minute

I really can't believe that on the alternative and indie forum people are seriously suggesting that "more popular" = "better"

Blur are way way better than oasis.... oasis have 2 fantastic albums, the rest are below par. Pretty much all of blur's stuff is great, and it does what music is supposed to do, Evolve, not stay the same

Sorry but at the time of the "war" I loved both bands and sneered at any kind of attempt to argue which was better. Completely different musically if you ask me and I loved each for different reasons. Man I can still remember the buzz when I saw Blur perform Girls and Boys on The Word. Amazing.

I remember buying Country House when it came out too. Was only 3 quid and not eligible for the charts from my recollection. The hype because both bands released their singles at the same time was laughable.

I was getting into the guitar when Oasis hit the big time and bought their song book for Deff Maybe when that came out. Great music to strum on the guitar at a party. As much as I like them myself and my mates would often call them the 3 chord merchants because their music was great but pretty simple. It was all about the delivery and there was genuine strength in the simplicity.

Really to argue for one or the other is pointless. Some like one, some the other, some both. Just like any two bands you might start a discussion on. Waste of time.

Absolutely. You can't tell a person their opinion is "wrong".

I can tell the person who said "Hey Jude is one of the most hated songs around" that they are wrong.

You can, and ironically you're also wrong.

How exactly are the first two the same.

All Blur albums are the same. They all go na na na na na

Now there's a man who doesn't know what he's talking about!

I was firmly in the Blur camp before ritually burning all my NME's and Melody Makers about a month before that silly contest with "Country House" and "Roll With It"

Still makes me shudder to think that future generations are going to read back on all the half arsed rubbish written about music in the 90's and think Britpop was relevant or innovative when it was essentially the very very final last gasps of anything interesting coming out of "Indie" culture...

Here's another one who doesn't know what he's talking about, that hasn't read the entire thread and missed the point of the post he quoted.

eh people oasis songs on guitar cause they were like the ABC's of playing

most people couldn't for the life of them play half as good as Graham Coxon :pac:

In your opinion it is a beautiful song. In his it's not. Neither of ye are wrong or both of ye are you can decide.

I've seen both this summer - Oasis in Manchester (the gig where the generator went) & Slane and Blur the other night at Oxegen, i cant believe people still argue about this, Oasis win every battle (except the "how hard is it to play the songs on guitar" battle) hands down !!
Oasis give a **** about their fans (money back for Heaton Park gig) etc and Blur dont (Albarn stoned and mixing up songs). Graham Coxon is a great guitarist but as bands go, Oasis are far far better than Blur. Snow Patrol had double the following Blur had at the weekend aswell which just shows how little the organisers know about the order of their line up. :o

Which again proves that "more popular" has nothing to do with "better" !

Exactly - Robbie Williams beat Oasis by doing 3 Knebworth shows instead of 2. Doesn't mean he's a more worthy artist.

Anyhoo, my argument is more based on artistic credibility and from being a hardcore Oasis fan back when they were relevant, Blur win out.

Damon was stoned, and claimed he mixed up the setlist, but it was damn near identical to every setlist on their tour, so I think he was having us on. They also played faultlessly all night, he came down and interacted with the crowd – something I’ve never seen Liam or Noel do – and put on an amazing show. An oasis fan can hardly use this to have a dig at Blur – how often have the Gallaghers come on full of Coke?

Oasis did give money back for that gig (they had to really), but Noel came out the next day berating fans who asked for a refund. Some caring for fans that is.

Snow Patrol would have been embarrassed to have played after Blur. You really are hilarious

Well Oasis are hardly gonna come down and interact with the crowd after your man decked Noel that time.

Asking someone, Father Damo-style, if they prefer Oasis or Blur is actually a decent enough way to see if you're going to get along, or at least be on anything approaching the same page musically.

If it was an "amazing show" there would not have been a steady flow of people leaving the main stage area, whether they're fans or not, people will stay for an amazing show. Rage against the machine last year, that was an amazing show, i didn't see one person leave & i'm pretty sure they weren't all hardcore fans !!

Only time will prove me right that Snow Patrol are also a better band than Blur. They should and hopefully will be a headline act next year.

And one last point, if and when Liam/Noel are off their head on coke they dont come on stage boasting about it - like 16 year olds taking drugs for the first time - looking for a cheer !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

You must be brain damaged if you think snow patrol are better than blur. blur just show all the ****e little indie bands around how it's done. I was standing through snow patrol wanting to cry waiting for blur to come on. it was worth it though :) and with regards people leaving, that's just down to the demographic at the festival

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭ArthurGuinness

Both great bands, why argue and go on about it. Some people will prefer Blur ad some Oasis. I myself prefer Oasis. Is it just me or is Be Here Now unfairly rated I think its got some great tunes on it as with Dont belive the truth. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants was crap I thought.

well Damon doesn't habitually drink, smoke or do drugs. the other band members have said he has a very non-addictive personality. So if you're stoned, don't get stoned all that often, and have a microphone, you're probably going to say something silly/embarassing that you probably wouldn't were you sober. Not that what they say between songs matters in this argument.

i was a blur fan around the time roll with it and country house were both going for the #1 spot.. i have to say blur won the battle but Oasis won the war...

However, i like both bands...i think Oasis are better though...
