    Welcome to Aviation & Aircraft...

The above pic is the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner a new wide body aircraft that will be made with mostly composite materials as well as aluminium and titanium etc.. more here

The jokes about she moves and that it doesnt fly refer to the Dreamliner's nickname of the "Delayliner" because it was scheduled to enter service in May 2008 and has been delayed:mad:... (maybe because Boeing know it cant fly and just want it to sit there and look pretty:P)

Still issues around the wing box and composite strengths that are putting first flight back for another while yet afaik.

how will this compare to the 777, or is it a completely different class?

They overlap in a lot of ways. Dreamliner is supposed to be way more fuel efficient (20%), which is interesting because the 777 has been class leading in that respect. It will also be the fastest airliner on sale when it goes into service.

Interesting design around the engine cover and seems smaller than a 777 yet slightly bigger than a 738.

What's with the smoke under the fuselage if it's a taxi test? Is the plane running on diesel?

First starts are always smokey...not sure of the science behind it but I presume its the fluids and oils that are in the engine for transport being initially burnt off. I'm sure a techie can explain better :D

Looks like shes set up for takeoff config with flaps and slats extended and on the runway, possibly a RTO test or just giving the brakes a good auld test.

All preservation fluid would be burnt off in the engine run before hand.
