Hi all, im a newbie to this so forgive me if this question should not be here. My question is.....
I have a 42" LG LCD HD Ready TV with analogue service only, from upc. Every channel is of bad quality yet the signal levels are well within their parameters as confirmed a couple of times by upc techs.
I've either gor blurred of ghosting on every channel & non- existing teletxt. Is anyone aware of a known fault with this tv brand or offer any additional help.
    Regards - r*oc

How far away are you sitting from the TV? There is a recommended viewing distance ( http://www.dtvcity.com/lcdtv/lcdscreensize.html ) related to the screen size.

    How are your DVD pictures/menus?

you have mentioned ghosting and no teletext - sounds like a problem with the connection from your UPC point to the TV

Where is the primary feed into your house? How many connections are you running, any boosters, splitters, how long is the cable from the wall to the TV? Is it a sealed cable or a self-made one, etc? Answers will help you to diagnose the issue.

    Things to try.
Replace the cable from the wall to the TV.
A 20 euro signal booster - DID, PowerCity, etc.
Get a friend with a digital UPC service to give you their receiver for a test.

    Or
Get used to it. (unfortunately) analogue service is poor and it's made to look worse worse by large screen TVs. If you put a small CRT TV there you'd probably think the picture is perfect. The quality of your TV is showing you that it needs a good quality signal. Consider the lowest priced digital pack from UPC. You'll get all the analogue stations in digital quality and you'll never go back.

    Cheerio

thanks for all your replies. I have tried nearly all the things you all suggested except for the booster. The signal levels are ranging from +2 db to +16 db so the booster would not be required.
I think the suggestion that the large tv screen might be the problem as it does seem to look better on a portable.
I suppose the idea of up-grading to dtv might be my only option as the poor analogue pictures are off-putting.
Thank you all for your great advice and help.

Just one other temporary fix: If your TV has a sharpness control, try lessening its intensity, or reduce the contrast. Not the most elegant solution, but might tide you over until you get Digital.

Upgrading to dtv will save you money(20 a month as opposed to 24.50 for analogue) and you get more channels plus better picture quality win win.

What is the picture quality like when using another source, watching a DVD or using a PS3 or whatever? Is there any ghosting? If the UPC signal is ok on the portable it is probably caused in part by the TV itself.

I second that. So many more possibilities for less.

the main primary feed uses what looks like a different connection. does anyone know what it is and are very readily available?
