    hey all,

I am starting a new job next week in a field that i have experience in but that my college degree doesnt relate to at all. The money is ok and all that and place seems good to work for (thats the impression i got in the interview).

The problem is I have a job starting in the UK in October with much better prospects as its completely related to my degree and has better money and benefits as well.

Anyways is it really bad me joining this company next week knowing I am going to be leaving in late september to go to the UK? Basically I have no choice but to take the job next week as I have no money and my jobseekers allowance claim hasnt been processed yet so no income at all.

Just looking for some opinions on this please!!!

it's a hard one!!!! We all gotta luk after No1.....if you have no money then id say start the new job....who knows? you may love it. If you do then id make sure that you give them plenty of notice before you leave in order for them to recruit for your position.....it would be a long summer if you didn't take it......i would take it

Yeah gonna have to take to take it.

I wouldnt mind so much if i was getting jobseekers and would try find part time or temp position and if it didnt come through i wouldnt be too bad as would have some money coming in.

not the type of guy who wants to leave the company in the lurch but its a tough place out there at the moment so gotta look after number 1 as you say.

Take it, the company wouldn't think twice if they had to make you redundant in October.

    100% agree.
In all fairness to you, you COULD decide to stick with the Dole when it eventually comes in an have a handy enough summer, but you chose to work. That has to be admired.

Hmm, tough one. Personally, for some weird reason, I'd rather not do something like this. This being said, bills need to be paid and food bought, and that's the point where reality sets in.

Go for it, it's better than signing on for sure.

Yeah not really my sort of thing to do this either but needs must.

Take the job. There's no loyalty in business. They would let you go in a heartbeat if it made financial sense so don't even feel the least bit guilty. Anyway, who's to say that it wont be the best job ever and that you'll love it (unlikely but possible)

    Take it.

A lot can happen between now and October: the job you're going to may fall through, someone in your family might get sick and thus need to you stay close to home, you may fall in love, etc etc.

The only way I'd say "don't" is if they were going to invest a lot of time and money training you. In the current climate, I'd say that's unlikely - if the job was that hard, they'd hire someone experienced.

So ... take it. And in three months time, explain that it really wasn't what you were looking for after all, so you're heading to the UK. (Don't make their lives miserable by saying you're going to a specific job).
