He was probably trying to sell you one.:D

As common sense would dictate, Just because its legal not to wear one here, it doesnt mean that the topography of the Irish city landscape is made of fluffy pillows and marshmallows, which cushion and impact..

You should wear a helmet regardless of the legality

There's a subset of the population who see something being done, make up some criteria which apply to it and then tell you that it's fact. People see a number of cyclists wearing helmets, assume they're required to (because you'd have to be forced to wear a helmet, right?) and go around telling everyone that it's the law.

As another example, I've heard it said a number of times both on boards and in real life that, "Cyclists don't have to obey traffic lights."

Or that you must wear hi viz, cos they saw some builder cycling to work wearing his vest and decided that it was compulsory.

Or that you have the mechanical aptitude to asemble a bike correctley.

Everybody is a cycling expert, highley qualified, due to them repairing a puncture on a raleigh racer, that was last ridden in summer of 1990 on a trip to the pub to follow Jackies Army.

I am closing this thread because I am concerned that it will go downhill easily.
We have answered bongotime's question. I'll let bongotime go make mad claims elsewhere.
