    There's no sunroof.
It hasn't arrived yet, but I think the whole lot is there. I'll let you know when it gets here.

A search only shows up results if you misspell vinyl as "vynil", sogood.

I removed the old roof, and there were some rusty horrors lurking beneath. Particularly around the edges of the windscreen.

I much prefer the lines of the car without the vinyl, so I'm just going to paint it.

For those who have wondered what is under a factory vinyl roof, its finished in primer, and a little topcoat overspray.

Mis-spelling vinyl is a common enough occurence overdriver and a point worth remembering for future reference. It is possible however to do a good DIY vinyl roof job if you have the skills. patience and access to a good industrial sewing machine, as most upholsterers would. A wee nixer, with just two seams to sew up. The vinyl in question is just "Trimcell" available from any upholstery supplies, such as Zhivago in Capel Street in Dublin. Templates are made up first in paper and the Trimcell is very forgiving, with a lot of stretch and "give" in it. It is applied with a contact adhesive, with just one chance to get it right, but with enough excess left on the Vinyl, trimming off after fixing is the way to go. Best done also in warm conditions.

I really wouldn't have the courage to do it mate...
It took me so long to remove the glue - and its still not all off - that if I messed up it'd drive me mad to take it all off again.

Is the Trimcell not treated afterwards or anything?

I did an Escort many years back and it was a great success. It didnt have a vinyl roof to start with, so no glue to clean off, just a good sanding and cleaning to key the original paintwork. No treatment needed on the Trimcell either, just the usual after care you would take, as in cleaning etc.
