The cost of Qualifying

I finally passed all my exams and am in the process in getting everything together to apply for membership of the CPA (no smart comments please, I know people look down on it, but it took alot of hard work to get through the exams)

So I got the application pack in the post a few weeks ago and there was the ususl, training records, competency profilie, ptractical IT etc, and a bill for €875. And been €800 a yr after.
I probably should of looked into in before I started but wasnt expecting to pass them all this year!

I am in industry, and would be close enough to the construction ind, so we have had our turnover fall dramatically. We got pay cuts in Jan,and like all companies are trying to reduce our costs.
The compnay did pay for all the college fee's over the last few yrs, but that was in the good times.
I will not be getting a pay rise (and am not paid well,I dont pay tax @ 42%) for passing/qualifying, and the company will not be paying for the subscription.

So Im in the suitation where I am not sure if I can afford to qualify, and then there will also be the cost of the CPD.

As we all know there isn't that many jobs out there, and can't move for a yr as that was part of the agreement with the company paying for the course.

Is anyone else out there in the same suitation?

    Hey, Congrats!

Not sure if you'd qualify if it existed, but most bodies have a "hardship" annual fee, which is a fraction of the full membership cost - could you apply for this?

But, yeah, CPA and ACA do charge a fortune for their annual fee, and is the product of being part of a relatively small organisation. ACCA's annual membership charge would be about a quarter of that.
