Off the top of my head for a 1.6 should be no more than €450 for the year.

Nope itll be expensive. As its considered a high risk car.

Read the OP's post again. Motor tax isn't charged based in risk ;)

its a high risk car that seen as a car used by messers for rwd "fun" so insurance friendly it isn't.

most wont take it on as its old and an import on top of being black marked, if your young expect to be turned away

I have no issues insuring a MkII Escort RS2000. It's actually pretty inexpensive.

A MkII Escort RS2000 is a rare and expensive classic car. Typically owned by a true Ford enthusiast. An old banger Toyota driven by a skanger is something slightly more risky to insure :)

It's a shame because the AE86 really is a fun car a tear around in. We all like a bit of sideways action now and again!

can only be insured as a classic if ya have another car insured as a daily driver and tehn ya have limited mileage etc etc

if your under 25 an have no ncb dont even bother trying

i'm just 26 have a full no claims bonus and my full license since in 17 but its on vans an jeeps so therefore non transferrable!!

even tho im just 26 and full license etc no1 would touch me!! your car is over 20 years old mr cooper, you dont have sufficent ncb mr cooper, you have no experience drivin on a private policy mr cooper, your car is a japanese import and on and on!!

my insurance on my L200 (2.5td) is €375 full comp for christs sake

in the end my wife is names driver on the cam and i'm names driver all in full comp for €600 what a wonderful country we live in!!
