Does anyone know when the Irish troops will be going out to Chad and those out there coming back? Baiscly when is the next switch in troops? I think its about Sept/Oct but looking for a closer answer.

    Thanks.

Had hoped to hitch a ride out and back there with them! to answer your answer your question in a roundabout way.
Was a project i was looking at, but had to see if the dates worked.

Well i would be out there doing a weeks work for them, so in a way, i would be getting a lift out with those leaving ireland and then returing a week later with those returning from their tour.

If it's official work you are supposed to be on then contact the DoD.

Lads its a common enough occurance for civilians to travel with chalk one and return on chalk two during a rotation.

Although OP I'd wonder why you weren't informed of your departure dates as you'll require various innoculation's before travelling (even for a week).

The approx date's for the rotation aren't secret, but to be honest I've no idea when it is. Although I've applied for oversea's service (Chad or Kosovo) and I'm aiming off for sometime in October.

Ring the Dept of Defence at (01) 8042000 and ask.

What work do you plan on doing?

I find it hard to believe you're doing work for the DF, yet can't find out the dates for the chalks.

If you haven't been to Kosovo before in Winter I'd go to Chad, it gets pretty darn cold out there.

No they aren't. So why does the OP need to ask for this information on a discussion board.

He says he hopes to travel out with the troops, which will need the cooperation and approval of the DF. The DF would therefore have already furnished the information he needs. Since he does not have that information we can assume that he is bullsh!tting us.

    Why?

I have to say, assuming that a military is squared away and gets it right is a pretty big assumption.

MM the amount of pure BS in this thread is beyond belief!.

First off, its not usual for civilians to travel oversea's during a rotation, everyone from civil servants from the Dept. of Defence to various other government bodies to journalists.

The dates for a rotation won't be finalised at this very early stage, and anyone who has travelled with the army will know that times and dates are ALWAYS subject to change.

I think the closing date for applications for both Chad and KFOR only closed last week, I know this because my application just about made it and even though I'm in the army I'd take any dates with a large pinch of salt right now.

I bet the OP doesn't even come back to look at this crap, but even if they do, OP I'm sure you'll be furnished with your joining instructions when it suits the military authorities - look 'em over and DON'T take 'em as gospal, because they WILL change.

    Unreal
