    Okay so here goes.

I plan on popping the question soon and I have a few questions so im hoping someone can help.

To begin with I plan on it being a surprise and I want to have the ring. i know it will mean more to her this way.

    Here are my questions

    1. how can I find our her ring size without her knowing?

    2. should I buy in dublin or online?

    3. Where would people say is good to buy from? that is where have you bought from and how did you find them to be?

    4. Id like to buy a celtic style ring (if possible). Any within my proce range seem to have .25-.33 diamonds. Will this seem really small?

    5. If i choose not to buy a celtic ring what style should I go for?

    6. any other advice would be great.

Can only answer these ones. For ring size either discreetly rob one you know fits that finger then slide in down a tapered candle and measure it or bring it with you to the shop where they should be able to do it for you. Or youcan use this method if she's a heavy sleeper :)

[*]Find a piece of string or strip of paper no wider than 1.4 cm (1/2 inches).
[*]Wrap it around the base of the appropriate finger.
[*]Use a pen to mark the point on the string/paper where it overlaps, forming a complete circle.
[*]With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the string/paper to the pen mark.
[*]Use this measurement and the chart to the right to determine your ring size.
[*]For the most accurate reading, measure the finger at the end of the day when the finger is the largest.

In terms of size of diamonds this will always depend on the woman, like I'd hate a big rock, my sister wants nothing but one. Is the Celtic style something she'd into as a motif on her jewelerly? It really will depend what styles she likes, you could take pictures of her favourite pieces of jewelry with you, or ask one of your sisters or female friends if they can pick up on what her style would be to give you a starting point.

Will start by saying ...congrats !!
      (Now to the serious stuff....)
do you have a budget ? traditionally engagement rings are supposed to be a months salary (then again ...... tradition isnt always popular)

you could consider getting one made specifically for her - probably cost a bit more but means that there's more thought/effort put into it when she discovers that you actually designed the ring for her.....only slightly better than the amount of effort you will be going to searching for rings.

there's loads of places to visit - again ...depending on budget.

as for finding out her ringsize .... maybe ask her parents (I assume you'll be asking their permission anyway....its tradition :P)
I would suggest buying actually in a shop (dublin or elsewhere in Ireland) ..... or if purchasing online.... ensure its a reputable shop, and get it valuated when it arrives.

as for Question 5.... surely you know your OH best ..... something that she will like would be my suggestion.

      thanks for the replies.

My budget will be about 2k. I wish it was more but at the moment its all I can afford. I know I could ask her mother for her ring size. The problem with that is I know she would not be able to hold it in. I plan to ask for her permission the day I pop the question so she has as little time as possible to let it slip.

Does anyone have any links to what is a reputable shop online?
