I am a 28 year old lady who was badly bullied as a teeneager and as a result I have little or no self confidence.

I have a high powered well paidf job but I know I am not as good a people person as I would like to be. I find it hard to talk to people in work and in social situations.

I am married and my husband is great but when we are out I let him do most of the talking.

I am a little overwewight but I am working on getting rid of the extra weight for confidence and I am also starting to look after and pamper myself but I would love some tips on how to gain more self confidence and how to talk to people in a more comfortable manner.

    Any advice?

I often feel the same. I find though that if I talk about things that I really enjoy and find interesting that I loose my self consciousness. I also find in general that doing things that I personally find stimulating tends to bring out an inner confidence and happiness in me. It can be simple things like getting into a bit of still life drawing for an hour or reading an inspirrational book or exercising like yoga jogging etc. I think that doing what personally illuminates you will give a sense of calmness. It doesn't really matter how good you are at it, it's what you take from it.

You could also try hypno therapy CDs.
Another thing you could look into is EFT(emotional Freedom Therapy). I have got into following David Childerley and his EFT tap along videos on u tube. It may not be for you but personally I find it quite good. 'hope this helps,
    All the best.

Join Toastmasters. This will help you with public speaking and the confidence will follow. You'll probably meet a few new friends as well.

This might sound cheesey but whenever you walk anywhere be conscious not to drop your head and keep your chin up and shoulders back in a confident manner, at the start your trying to look confident but then it rubs off on you when people treat you confident and you actually will increase confidence.. it works.

^^^ very good advice as well. If you act confident, you will be perceived as a confident person. It works for me :)

    Hey OP

Have you any hobbies or anything you've a flare for? (Everybody has) Develop them, it's always a good way to feel better about yourself.

Pat yourself on the back if you do something well - mentally or physically whichever suits. It can help when you feel the need to be hard on yourself. Personally recommend it as a habit that you should try to develop. Also echo the Toastmasters although clubs or organisations that reflect your own personal interests may help - sports clubs, book clubs etc..
