"came before the Small Claims Court last Thursday seeking €139.99 from Halfords on behalf of his 16-year old son"

says it all really, thing would have fallen apart anyway doubt it had anything to do wwith the way it was put together a 16 year would trash a bike like that in minutes

He paid the full amount, €139.99.......blah blah blah.....it was supposed to be an all-terrain mountain bike.

I presume there is a small disclaimer sticker on these bikes that says 'not to be used on all terrains'.

Kinda feel sorry for him to have such a bad experience in buying a bike. €140 may be a lot of money to him from his part-time job and I'm sure his son was delighted with a new bike. I'm sure he went back to Halfords first to complain before he went down the legal route and it's likely that said "wear and tear mate" so hump off.

A lot people still think you can buy a good bike for a few hundred euro as you could in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately this isn't the case but no one knows this.

Halfords are such morons to let this go to the small claims court. Whatever money they saved on not giving the young lad a new bike, they've lost it ten times over now with a drop in sales when people read that article.

Moral of the story? Buy your bike from your local bike shop. That isnt Halfords.

Any bike you get from the LBS costing ~140 is probably just as likely to break

.... in fairness the first 2 issues seem to have been trivial, the 3rd is probably a result of him hopping it off something and it being a cheap BSO

though i entirely agree halfords were silly to let it get to court/get publicity....but i imagine alot of 140euro bikes they sell break quickly...
