    Hi,

I have just started a diet for the first time. I want to lost approx 22lbs.

I am trying to eat a lot less calroies than usual.

Today I had a banana and a slimfast for my breakfast.

For lunch I had a wrap with chicken, cheese, onion and tomato and a banana yoghurt.

I am trying to drink 1.5l a day. I have started going to the gym 3 times a week where I burn approx 400 calories.

Can you give any tips on my diet? I am finding that the weight isn't falling off at all and I'm getting depressed over it now

    Hi Depuy lady,

Firstly congrats on making the decision and effort to try and eat more healthily, and starting up at the gym.

I expect that you are getting extra calories from sources you didn't expect, are you calorie-counting? If not it wouldn't hurt to start, even just for a short while to put things in perspective. It might also be helpful if you post up a typical day's food without leaving anything out, as other people can often spot flaws that you didn't see yourself.

On your food above, I'd ditch the slimfast for breakfast and look at having something more filling & lighter on calories for lunch, or at least leave out the cheese. If you're trying to drop weight cheese is spmething you should have in limited quantities. Bananas are great, but high in sugar and quite high calorie, so have one before/after the gym but try to have other fruit - apples, oranges etc - at other times. Porridge or eggs are great choices for breakfast, and if you don't have the time or the will in the morning, go with Weetabix and strawberries or sugar-free muesli :)

Have you thought about joining Weight Watchers? It's very effective and does the calorie-counting for you (to an extent). It also encourages a healthy lifestyle and being active.

Best of luck with it :)

Hey, id recommend some of the stickies in the fitness forum but from my own current lifestyle changing (i dont call it a diet- that implies it will end and i can somehow go back to eating rubbish).
You should drink about 3l of fluid preferably water ( there is lots of sugar in fruit juices!)
avoid caffeine- it gives me a high and then i am wrecked and tend to snack more after
Stick to porridge/grains/eggs/ fruit for breakfast
AVOID WHITE BREAD LIKE THE PLAGUE! AND white rice and pasta!
BROWN is the new black- brown rice/brown bread and wholemeal pasta!
If you can- keep a food diary....
ask in the gym for a program- i went in blind and yes i have lost 4.5 stone but it tapered off and i should have been varying much more and doing weights!
Ask in either this or fitness forum for other stuff. i am NO expert but people have been really helpful and supportive.......

    Hi there,

You should stick to it because results don't show until about a month into the diet. That's the thing, people often give up before the results start to show... at least that's what I always did, until last year when I became much more determined. Then when you start to see it work, it really encourages you to keep going.

Thing I found most useful was to walk everywhere instead of taking the bus or cycling. I never realised how amazing walking was. Just remember to eat healthily, but never deny yourself anything you're really craving, just have a very very small portion of it. Eat little and often!

    :)
