Child Support

I have a friend who maybe after tax comes out with 500 euro a week.
He had a child with someone about 7 years ago and is paying about 130 euro a week in child support.

Now all along that was fine but now he's thinking of a mortgage and having other children and I'm just wondering is this standard child support payment?

Also he doesn't see the child. He never has. The mother was a fling he had while with somone else. The mother gave him an ultimatum at the time that he either basically stayed with her who he didn't love and saw the child or else he would have no contact with his child. He had talked things through with his longterm gf at the time and they had decided to try to work it out. So the mother cut ties with him seeing the child.

As I said i'm just wondering does 130 sound extreme or is it the normal?

    Thanks

I have a son who sees his father twice a year (the fathers choice, not mine, I'd love him to see him much much more but ultimately thats all the time he is willing to give to his son) and he gives me 65 euro a week. My son is 11.

    From the citizens information website:

    maintenance orders and agreements
In Ireland, paying maintenance does not in itself give a parent access or guardianship rights.

At present, the District Court can award any amount up to 150 euro per week for each child. If sums greater than these amounts are being sought, you will need to apply to the Circuit Court

€130 is probably on the higher side of the average that is paid but it's not the highest amount a court can order, your friend could go to court and argue to have it reduced.

Also visitation/access is a completely seperate process to maintenance, there is no linkage between the two.

Your friend could go to the district court and seek access if he wants access to his child.

WOW:eek::eek::eek: i have a son nearly 6 getting 70 week from his father which i think is suffice...your friend should def go talk to a solicitor on the access matter. i hate relationships like that or so called relationships its always the poor kids that suffer the most which is a shame:confused:

My dad had to pay e268 a week in 1998. It was totally unnecessarily high and 15% more than he earned at the time (just became unemployed, mother split)

130e a week isn't unusual, even for just one child. Call a solicitor, best thing for it.
