Church marriage after divorce??

My fiance was married before but was married in a civil cermony in a registary office. A friend recently informed me that we can have our wedding in a church as he wasn't married in a church first time round.

I'd love to be married in my local church. Does anyone know if the above is true?

    Consult a priest.

Yep you can if neither of you were married in catholic church before you were not married in the eyes of god! eg Nicole Kidman.....

not true - technically once you have been married civily then the church sees you as married - not married in the eyes of god, and not received the sacriment of marriage but married none the less.

I know this as I wanted a church blessing but was refused - told we had to have the sacriment or nothing. So I asked what about having a blessing after the civil ceremony - absolutely no, once you are married outside the church you give up your right to a church marriage! or so I was told. some priests may bend these rules and make their own decision, but technically this is the official line. Friends of mine asked for a church blessing but were told no - no such things as blessings and since he was a divorcee he could not receive the sacriment.

check with your parish priest if he is willing to bend the rules - you might be lucky

It is possible to get married in a church. It really depends on the priest.
