Just wondering where these treasure troves of retro gaming goodness are to be found.
Celbridge is a little to far for me to slip off to, all nonchalant like....

I agree. It would be useful to have a list going.

That one in Dundrum that I always go to is on this Saturday at around 9am. I think I'm going to be doing it (before anyone gets excited, no I will not be selling any of my collection, as worthless as it may be) It's just my Aunt selling her stuff.

Was it the St Raphaels day in Celbridge by any chance??If it was I want that N64.Was just about to buy it and the bloke on the stall handing it over to someone else :)

Last year I picked up a dreamcast with 4 controllers and a bag of about 30 games for a tenner aswell. There was a megadrive there yesterday with a load of games that was sold for 10 aswell--it was marked sold when I got to the stall though :(

The year before that I picked up a Snes with 30 games for 7 euros.

Its a good old spot for the older stuff once you get there early.

    Gimme gimme gimme!

I work in Dundrum just beside the Luas stop but have absolutely no idea of the surrounding geography. Which makes it extremely frustrating to know there's a carboot sale on around here somewhere.

Any idea where it is in relation to the Luas? Is it in walking distance or would I need to get a lift out?

    *very shifty eyes*

o1s1n: yes it's definitely within walking distance of the Dundrum luas station. I'll try do a map for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Okay, the black dot is the Dundrum luas station, then just follow the orange line and when you get to Ballinteer road, keep going straight and you can't miss it, there'll be signs. It's roughly a 15 min walk. However don't blame me if you get lost :P

Guys if anyone wants to sell any retro gear please post your advert on www.adverts.ie and then post a link to the sale here. I understand that posting goods here is a great way of to find collectors but boards.ie has strict rules about this sort of thing.

When did you get there, I got there about 8:45, did you get the mvc2 and cvs2 from the lady selling the Xbox with Capcom fighting jam, you must of gotten there earlier then me.

but next time we will go together, oh i was in nut grove today and saw they also had a bootsale yestaday

Dammit, forgot it was Sunday, was supposed to take a run to the Balbriggan market, see if there were any goodies there, also haven't been in the Airport market in a while, it's there at Kart City.
The Fairyhouse market has, invariably, been a bust, the two gamestalls that were ever there were an overpriced Chinese guy selling overpriced bootleg games for the PS2 and GBA and a table with some decent last gen stuff but always way way overpriced.

I was there at about 6.30 am because I was selling. Yes, was the lady kind of American? She was selling the xbox with all the games for 120 but she said she'd give it to me for 100, I said no thanks. Yes, we'll defo go to bootsales in the future together, and all else who will care to join us

    Did you have a stall!.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I often wonder, especially after being threatened with divorce because "she who must be obeyed" has spotted a latest purchase, would a market stall be the best place to sell a games collection?
Now no need to get anxious, i'm not selling anything.
Just wondering where would one get the best prices?
I suppose in a car boot sale you can set the bar as high or low as you like and make the rules up as you go, whilst on adverts.ie there are definite rules to every transaction.
Hmmm, sometimes wonder how much it's all worth.

By far the best place to get your monies worth is Ebay. With a UK address if you can.

Market stalls you have a very limited audience. That's why you see it all go for so cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Yes, but it was my aunts, not mine. So technically no.

them games can make you a nice bit, best to check ebay/amazon uk for a rough idea what to ask, depends on their print aswell, sometimes games that arent "platinum" editions seem to be worth bit more because they can be seen as first edition prints...

Got myself a dirty old nes with mario1, 2 pads and power supply for €5 in the navan market from the travelers:pac:

2 hours cleaning later and it was perfect, looked like new
Power supply had usual problem and also the cartridge connecter had usual grey screen problem.
    well happy with it.

I've been to the market in Ashbourne most sundays and theres usually loads of PS2 games but haven't seen anymore retro consoles

Nice haul! The 'cartridge connector' can be easily replaced, and it's pretty much the only thing that ever goes wrong with this console. Once replaced you might as well have a new nes in your hands. Just google or look on youtube for '72 pin connector nes' and you're in business. I recently replaced two with no hassles. If ya want a number for a crowd to buy them from, let me know. They're only around a tenner each:pac:

Nicely done cynos! It's good to see a NES given a second go at life :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 520 ✭✭✭batari

Good job, incidentally what did you use to clean the nes itself?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,836 ✭✭✭TanG411

Nice job with the Nes :D

Have to find one of those 72 pin connectors myself. I've taken it out and now I need a new one to put in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

The NES is looking great! I must order a Game-Bit to open up the SNES and give it a deep clean and try replace the fuse

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 260 ✭✭cynos

Its a brilliant console, deserves a second life!
    atariman wrote: »

Stripped everything down to just the plastic bits, washed with water and fairy in the sink 1st.
    then Ambersil (aerosol foam cleaner)
Then to top it all off put it in the dishwasher on the hottest setting 75degrees with:D
Seemed to do the trick nicely

bend the metal tabs so that they once again make good contact.
The best and fastest way I found to do this is by bending the very tip(sharp bit)of a safety pin to a 90degree angle and using it to leverage each pin up, takes seconds and works a treat, also cleaned connector while it was out with cotton buds and alcohol
