    Hi there,

I've had a Macbook now for about 2yrs and I'm thinking of upgrading. What I want to know is should I upgrade and which model looks to be best value for money? I currently run this spec

    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB31.008E.B01
    SMC Version: 1.24f2
    Serial Number: W874917MZ66
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled

I'd like to edit and process video with reasonable efficiency (what my current machine is lacking) and also I'll be running Logic with plug-ins.

I'd say 15" is the size i'd go for.

Sorry for the noob question but I'm not really that educated on computer hardware. As a college student I value having a machine that works all of the time, my current (also first) mac has been fantastic.

One last question. What price should I ask for my current machine (white one). It's in rough enough shape with a few dings and scratches (bombproof!) but runs A1. Without the HDD of course. My budget would be under 1500 with the student disc. 10% or thereabouts.

    D.

Well Apple's notebook line-up is pretty basic. There are only three 15-inch Macbooks to choose from. Cheapest is €1550 with student discount. See here. Or you could check out the previous gen models on the refurb store.

how does one sell to that refurb store?

is it money basis or a trade in for a newer model and you fund the difference

The refurb store doesn't trade in second-hand Macs. The ones they sell are (fully repaired and re-warrantied) macs that were DOA or failed in the first few months of use and were replaced, and also Macs that people changed their mind on owning within the first 14 days or whatever that cooling-off period is.

Sell yours for €600 or so on adverts.ie or wherever, and still enjoy the discounts of the refurb store (rather than the regular, full-price stuff).

i suppose - dunno if i would get someone to buy for 600 althugh that is what it is worth as that is the least apple would buy it back for if they did that
