I got zoom done a couple of months ago and found it great, cost 450 but was worth it. It's the one hour job you get done in the dentists. I had no pain or sensitivity but have heard a lot of horror stories about it, make sure you go to someone recommended to you.

Check out the dental issues forum there's a lot of info there:)

I got the Zoom done. It did lighten my teeth from a shade 3 to a 1. I got it done about a month ago. Not worth the money in my opinion. They do tell you that they will darken slightly as the teeth are dehydrated after the treatment. There is a slight difference but I can think of much better use for the money...

I used Crest White Strips and loved the results. Undoes years of coffee and tea and cola. Not Hollywood white, but definitely worth the money. You can get them online at rogain.com or something like that as far as I remember.

The range of toothpastes by Rembrandt (can get it in Boots) is fantastic for teeth whitening!!! As good as professional teeth whitening :o:o

What type did you use? They seem to make a few different formulations...

+ 1 for crest whitening strips!!
Cheap, safe and easy way of whitening your teeth!!
I used a box of the premium teeth whitening stips about 3 years ago and my teeth went very white!! If I had used another box they would definitely have been hollywood white!! They just recently started to loose their whiteness again and I bought a box of supreme whitening strips, I have only used about 3 or 4 sets of strips and it brought them right back up!! I would recommend crest strips to anyone!!
Only thing I didn't like about them was that they made your teeth very sensitive while using them!! But it's not so bad if you use a toothpaste like sensodine!! This happens with the ones you get from the dentist too though!

Cheapest option for whitening I have heard about is using baking soda! I can't so anything at the mo cos I've got braces, but I will def be trying this as soon as they come off!

If you decide you would like to go beyond regular whitening strips and trays, you should investigate all of your options and consider various teeth whitening products and whitening technologies available. After its done you should practice proper oral hygiene- brushing and flossing after meals and at bedtime.

I use the Crest strips and I find them great especially if you don't want to spend too much. There are a few different ones, some are stronger than others. You use the stronger strips over a shorter period but I found they made my teeth and gums more sensitive. The ones you use for 5 minutes a day but over a longer period I found worked better for me. I got them here www.cheapotc.com and they deliver quite quickly.

    Hope this helps.

does anyone know if you can buy these strips in the shops or does it have to be online??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 chogxox

I haven't seen them in the shops anywhere and I would suspect they are probably a bit cheaper online as it's dollars but you might find them somewhere...

I work in the dental industry, and I would not recommend those Crest strips that were mentioned. Neither would I recommend products like Rembrandt or Pearl Drops. All those products are abrasive, so they basically remove some of the enamel on your teeth, bit by bit.
Nor would I go to a salon for whitening treatment. Only qualified dentists are allowed perform tooth whitening treatments. Obviously seeing as dentists spend 5 years in College studying the teeth and gums, they are experts and know exactly how to protect the gums and lips during whitening treatments. Going to an unqualified person in a salon is not a good idea. You could end up with burned lips or gums, which would be very painful, and not very attractive either!
In-chair whitening treatments are very popular because they are quick, and usually whiten the teeth by quite a few shades. It is true though that these treatments do dehydrate the teeth, so the end result will be a bit darker after a couple of days. Most dentists providing this treatment will also have bleaching trays made in a lab to fit the patients teeth perfectly, and you would then be given a "home bleaching kit" to use for a few days to bring the teeth up to an even whiter shade. Zoom whitening is quite popular. I suppose it just depends on how patient or impatient you are.
I personally would not go for the in-chair whitening, and would instead go to the dentist and have the home whitening kit made for me. It will take you a couple of weeks of wearing the bleaching trays filled with bleach, but after a couple of weeks, your teeth will reach your desired shade. Its done gradually with the home whitening kit, so the teeth are not as dehydrated.
Whatever you decide to do, I would strongly recommend you have your whitening done by a qualified dentist.

I've tried a few of the whitening strips (bought them in America) and stopped using all of them after a few days because they were making my teeth very sensitive and I don't usually have sensitive teeth. One brand I've used regularly over the last few years is called GoSmile. I've bought it a few times in Sephora in America, but it's surely available somewhere online. It's little ampoules with a built in brush that you squeeze and brush onto your teeth. My teeth aren't very discoloured but it did make quite a noticeable difference. They cost about $90 for a box but I don't think that's too bad considering the horror stories I've seen after people have paid over €500 on the high street.

Had bleaching trays from my dentist, but that didn't last very long. Its expensive, but worth it if you can avoid the staining foods.

Hmmm...of course the dentist is going to say to not use the crest whitening stripes - go figure??! However, I've been using the Crest WhiteStripes for the past two years and can really vouch for the results. I get loads and loads of comments about my smile :D They're an inexpensive yet really effective way to whiten your teeth. I've been using the Premium plus ones which are a 10 day course (applied twice during the day) but I've never ever gone the full 10 days as anything more than 6 or 7 days and you'll be blinding people  While they do make your teeth feel sensitive after a few days they're back to normal again...and it's totally worth it. The first time I bought these was online, anytime I've been to the States or know of anyone going I ask them to bring back a box.
P.S. My sister used to live with a dentist who looked at the ingredients on the back of the box. Apparently they're the exact same ingredients they use only he wasn't able to tell the quantities etc.
    Best of luck!!

Actually the reason dental professionals tell people not to use these strips is because they are extremely abrasive, and with prolonged use, can remove the enamel from your teeth. Lets be honest here, no dentist or hygienist on this forum is going to benefit personally by tellling people not to use this product. I would not recommend them to anyone because they can cause irreversable damage. The only safe way to whiten your teeth is by going to a dentist.

I asked my dentist about the Crest Strips before using them.
He didn't tell me not to use them. He told me about the sensitivity they can cause, and advised me to use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. He also said not too use them too often and to stick to the instructions (instructions do not recommend doing more than 2 courses in 12 months).
He said they were an effective and low cost way to whiten my teeth :)

So, I used them about 3 months ago and was really happy with the results. :)

Really?. I have yet to come across a dentist or hygienist who would not advise their patients of how abrasive these strips are. I recall numerous conversations I had with colleagues in the dental hospital about these strips, and about other tooth whitening treatments being sold on the high-street and on the internet. Obviously your dentist knew you had decided to use these strips and wanted you to use them in as safe a way as possible, so he gave you good advice. But, lets be clear they ARE abrasive and CAN damage the enamel of your teeth. I really dont see how anyone would risk damaging their teeth for the sake of a few euro...... but then, not everyone is as aware of the importance of their teeth as I am.

hi guys just wondering on the topic of teeth whitening:

the enamel on my teeth, most noticeably the front ones both upper and lower, has been slightly eroded away by acid erosion so there are a little bit transparent on the bottom/top of the tooth respectively - I would like to whiten my teeth but am afraid to use those strips as I do not want to damage my teeth further.

I also don't have the money to pay for a professional whitening by the dentist. Would bread soda be okay to use or would it whiten parts of my teeth and not the half transparent parts?

I can understand how a whitening toothpaste, where you are scouring your teeth with particles, could be abrasive. But I can't understand how a non-moving strip could be abrasive - could you explain in more detail?

It's not a matter of a few quid, I was quoted by a dentist 450 euro to get him to professionally whiten them. Creststrips cost me 23 euro for my 1 week course (once a day).

My dentist (student in the dental hospital) had recommended them to me, I had already ordered them on net when she told me about them.

I got crest whitestrips supreme & am on 4th day of 7, only using them once a day & I've found them to be great. Teeth look really great already & no sensitivity at all so far.

I definitely wouldn't use them more than once a year though to be on the safe side, which is what the dentist had suggested & she said that when you are using them second time round you only need to use them for couple of days to bring them back to original whiteness.

My teeth were not that stained at all & I've no plaque built up. If your teeth are quite crooked & badly stained I'd definitely recommend getting a professional clean done first so you get best results from whitestrips.

In my opinion (completely non-professional) they are ok to use if only once a year & you clean your teeth with a nonabrasive normal toothpaste & soft tooth brush.

    www.creststrips.co.uk

They are not a UK company, they're based in New York & it takes a week to get them. The packets arrive just on their own, no instructions etc. I got 14 sets of strips for €46 but I had been under the impression I got a 14 day supply (28 sets of strips).

If I were you I'd order from a UK seller on Ebay as you have comeback in case something goes wrong & you will get instructions & get them faster.

At present I am using the Crest Whitestrips Premium and the problem I have is the bottom strip on the bottom teeth.

It doesnt seem to stick as well to the bottom teeth as the top teeth and with the build up of saliva it then affects the strip and the strip can come off and just tangled.

    Anybody else have this problem?

Yes I had that problem. I didn't really figure out how to overcome it other than try & swallow regularly & keep head tilted back. Try not to move lips or talk while have them on. Every so often I would gently press them against teeth again.

    Definitely saliva was a problem!

When i used them i only put one on at a time, bottom then top takes longer but i found it easier.
