Im currently doing Lthr and Vo2 interval training on the bike but am not sure whether to judge intensity by heart rate or effort/speed.

there are times when i feel i can push on comfortably but it would take me out of my required heart rate training zone. what is the right way?

Also, just wondering has anyone read total heart rate training by Joe Friel and whether they would recommend it. would it be a good guide for training or would i need to get it with the triathlete training bible. thanks
