I have a TV show in AVI format and want to crop a scene of about 15 seconds to upload to youtube.

What software do I need to do this.
I've tried windows movie maker and a quick google but no joy.

    Thanks.

http://www.virtualdub.org/ Virtualdub would probably do it.

AVI Splitter, but you may need to purchase it to make it useful.

I'm sure there's open source (free) applications, I'm annoyed as I'm sure I had stuff on my PC for doing this a while back, but I'm trying to think of where..

I forgot to add, would you not encode the whole show and edit it afterwards up on YouTube, aren't there 'mash up' tools available to crop, edit.. once the clip is up on YouTube?

Just tried this, it'll do exactly what you want.

    SolveigMM AVI Trimmer (seemingly Free)

Scroll down to the bottom for the download. Halfway along the page the links are to a different commercial product, with more advanced features.

    Thanks for your replies.

I used that AVI splitter but it's no good in 7 days.

Anyway, I made my first ever youtube.

Sorry if you think I'm a little weird but I thought this was the cutest scene I have ever seen. It's from a great new show I found called "Big Love"

The post above yours, that software is freeware, doesn't expire. Just in case you need to trim in the future.

Got a strange problem right now.

Those avi splitters work fine on my laptop but on my desktop they all have the same problem - no codec found so the video isn't displayed.

Which I don't know because it's Windows Vista(from the same disc) and VLC media player on both systems.

Is the laptop updated? or maybe running a more updated codec\Windows Media Player package?

Just.. are you running as Administrator on the laptop and a user on the desktop? Vista is an odd beast, it might be permissions related, however unlikely.
