Thread for updates, predictions, and discussion about these games. Will hopefully be going to Cork/Limerick, not the Offaly game however.

    Cork Team vs Offaly:

    1. Donal Óg Cusack (Cloyne)
    2. Shane O’Neill (Bishopstown)
    3. Eoin Cadogan (Douglas)
    4. Shane Murphy (Erin’s Own)
    5. John Gardiner (Na Piarsaigh)
    6. Ronan Curran (St. Finbarr’s)
    7. Seán Óg Ó hAilpín (Na Piarsaigh)
    8. Tom Kenny (Grenagh)
    9. Tadhg Og Murphy (Sars)
    10. Jerry O’Connor (Newtownshandrum)
    11. Pa Cronin (Bishopstown)
    12. Timmy McCarthy (Castlelyons)
    13. Ben O’Connor (Newtownshandrum)
    14. Aisake Ó hAilpín (Na Piarsaigh)
    15. Kieran Murphy (Sarsfields)

    Cork (SFC v Limerick): A. Quirke; R. Carey, M. Shields, A. Lynch; J. Miskella, G. Canty, K. O'Connor; A. O'Connor, N. Murphy; P. Kelly, P. O'Neill, P. Kerrigan; D. Goulding, J. Masters, D. O'Connor.

    Predictions:

    Cork beat Offaly by 5.

    Cork beat Limerick by 4.

Anyway, this would be my team versus Offaly:

    Donal Og

Shane Murphy Eoin Cadogan Conor O'Sullivan

Shane O'Neill Ronan Curran Sean Og

    Tom Kenny John Gardiner

Fintan O'Leary Pa Horgan Pa Cronin

    Fraggie Murphy Aisake Ben O'Connor

Lined up as above. Shane O'Neill needs to be brought more into the game, Jerry is out of form, Pa Horgan needs more of the ball to improve his confidence and could make a very good playmaker. There would be a lot more scoring in attack in my opinion.

My preferred option considering the group of players we have. Opinions?

Id be happy enough with that team aswell. Curran would be the only one id change. hes been off form for a while now. Definately agree that shane o'neill is wasted at corner back.

With regards to the actual team picked i can't really make any sense of it. DW says that the team is picked on form but then Timmy and Curran are both picked when they were poor against Tipp and Gardiner is picked in a position hes been struggling in for a while. He should be cb or midfield.

Also dropping Horgan is a strange one at least put him half forward and Fintan should definately be given a run-out aswell.

Pity about the injuries to Oakley, Rigney & Currams plus word is Kenny and Franks arent at 100%

Thats said i'm looking forward to a good match and fingers crossed a credible performance from Offaly and maybe, just maybe a big upset :)

Curran is in decent enough form, I see no reason to drop him, although his distribution has been a little off lately. He had a good second half against Tipp, and the other options, McGann or Gardiner, aren't as talented nor as experienced in that position as he is.

Ah Orizio, you actually a predicted a Cork win...twice. Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed?:D

Anyway,I think Cork will steamroll Offaly in Tullamore.I just can't see Offaly beating Cork since they lost well to Wexford.Cork looked good against Tipperary and it seems that Cork are starting to get back to form after their break earlier this season.

I can't see Limerick beating Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. They are in the Munster Final due to the fact that they didn't have to face Cork/Kerry earlier and while they beat Tipperary and Clare,Cork is too much of a stepup in my opinion. If the game was in Gaelic Grounds,Limerick would have a bigger chance of causing a huge upset.Cork by 7.

i wouldnt say that hes being cocky. Although I do think that cork 'steamrolling' offaly is abit much. However, Cork by 5 in both matches.

    h.t.- offaly 1-8
    cork 1-10

lots and lots of very bad wides on both sides,
bad shooting and messy play, poor service to full forward lines

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 627 ✭✭✭Jugs82

Jerry O'Connor appears to be the main difference between the sides - Offaly have to nullify his threat (how, i dont know...)

Offaly need to come out all guns blazing for the first 10-15 minutes and really put it up to Cork

Is it true that if galway beat clare next saturday that they must play cork in phase 3? As galway have already played laois. So then the winners of the limerick/wexford match must play laois.?

Yes. I have a feeling Clare might win though.

yeah.. But still..i gues we better be ready for the worst..
Would home advantage be given to a team in phase 3 or would they meet half-way?

halfway , like when the two sides met in thurles last year .

Was at the game in Tullamore. Offaly were well able for Cork in the first half and were playing some great hurling, unlucky to be going in 2 points behind. Offaly just looked mentally defeated after the 2nd half started however. It was like they'd forgotten how to score and were almost willingly steamrolled, or just succumed to the inevitable defeat that they were expecting. Sad really as i'd love to see Offaly really play for 70 mins against one of the big teams.

A lot of willy nilly changes like taking off Carroll and Shane Dooley didn't make much sense to me. Offaly looked toothless in the 2nd. Fair play to Aisake who took his two goals really well. Didn't realise he was so tall, an excellent target man.

Offaly looked good in patches (well in the 1st half anyway) but their old frailities showed again. They might grow a bit with Div 1 hurling next year. Dublin have certainly gained from Div 1 hurling. Hard to know how much of a threat Cork are. I think they will improve as the competition goes on. They did look a bit ragged first half, but really gained control as the game went on and were comfortable in the end.

sound. Just been doing my bit of research here. If limerick beat wexford (using limerick as an example), then they go on to play laois (if galway beat clare). Limerick will probably beat laois and end up in the QF's. Then, (if tipp beat waterford in the munster final) limerick will play dublin (as limerick cant face WF). This givs a team like limerick/wexford a chance at getting into the S-finals. Am I the only person finding this whole qualifier system queer? The good thing is that if all goes to plan as said above and cork beating galway in the qualifiers then we could have another cork/waterford classic on our hands. So i guess theres a positive to everything

The qualifiers this year are just plain ridiculous. Why is there a need for a round 1 with four teams and a round 2 with four teams? The flaws are obvious. Lets say hypothetically speaking Tipp had lost to Clare and were now facing Galway. This is a far harder draw than any of the other 3 teams in round 1 which Cork could have been drawn with. If this scenario had occured Cork would have been rewarded with an easier draw for losing to Tipp! Madness really!

yeah. Phase 1 is fairly pathetic. Open draw might have been easier and more efficient. Hope waterford and cork meet again this year though. Have you seen the relegation process. Theres no play-off. Honestly, carlow for christ sake! They couldnt last a day in the top tier championship. And they will be replacing the likes of antrim, wexford, offaly limerick!!! It could come to that like..

That's a joke of a penalty decision, Cork scarcely deserve it.

Does no good for the second tier teams getting hopped by antrim either. A Waterford v Cork game would certainly liven up the championship alright

yeah it definetly would. Wheres orizio.? His powers are working well so far. Limerick will pull off a win if they play like this. Brilliant stuff! At the match now.

Utter pathetic display from Limerick in the last twenty mins. Where did the forwards disappear to? There is no doubt that they deserved to win that game but it's the same old failings, inability to take points when it matters.
