I Hit Someone With My Car

I was out a couple of days ago at an event. It was dark when I was driving home, around half 11. Everything is going fine until I get to my local shop, where a couple of rough looking lads are hanging around.

I slow down as I'm approaching them, one of the lads runs out into the road in front of my car and tries to act tough. I got fairly annoyed and went right through him. I thought the idiot would get out of the way. I didn't stop to see if he was alright. I felt so scared and didn't want to get in trouble. I proceeded to drive around for an hour considering what I should do.

Now it's eating me up. I hit the lad fairly hard, I'm not sure how badly injured he was. Should I go to my local Garda station and tell them what happened?

I'm just so worried. I need help. What should I do?

If I were you I'd go to the Guards. It will be hard but it's the right thing to do.
    Good luck with it.

Go to the station now. Chance are someone saw your reg and the Gardai will be on to you if you hurt him. If you give yourself up they will go that bit easier on you.

considering they can track your address from the IP you posted this from anyway, then yes you should go to the gaurds

Not sure what else can be said here really other than "do the right thing, report it to the gardai".

You will (I'd imagine) get done for it - but better now than 6 months time when they trace it back to you (assuming they will).

Do you know for sure if this guy was injured? If it was your local shop, is there a sign on the window asking for witnesses to an accident?
He might have been fine, you can't have gathered up too much speed if you were moving off. I know I've barely tipped the bumper of a car on occasions (when they are parked too close to mine and I need to move off) and felt like I'd hit the other car fairly hard, yet there's no damage.

Report it to the Gardaí - they will probably take into account that he was provoking you and chose to deliberately stand in your way, although it is certainly dangerous driving to just plough on when someone does this. I've wanted to do the same to scumbags who've messed with my car so i know how annoying it is.

Either way - the right thing to do is to report it.

Was there damage to your car? That would indicate how hard you hit them. You said it was few days ago. I reckon if it was serious you would have heard something by now. Is it a rough/dangerous area your in?

It's better that a garda at the local station hears it direct from you.
Don't wait until the squad car pulls up and they want to have a chat with you at your front door. You're on the backfoot then!

You need to go to the police. As soon as possible.
