I know most people here are heading down for the ROK, just wondering if there is anyone still in Dublin going out for a spin tomorrow?

Am out From Balrothery at 0900 3 hours ish (thats northside though so probably as a Ranelagh person you'd probably be too scared to venture north of the liffey) :)

I'm in Milltown and thinking of heading for Stocking Lane. Not sure how far I'll go though.

I think I'll go out for a spin. I'll try and be at Dundrum at 10am, so if anyone is on for it just turn up?

Sound. Anyone else more than welcome. I've given keenan110 my mobile number and I aim to be there from 9.55 to 10.10 or so at the south side of the bridge (where the bus stop is).

I'm very unfamilar with the routes out of Dundrum, I found my way out to Stepaside by sheer luck last week but willing to try any route that suits whoever's there. Prefer flatter and longer rather than shorter and steeper cos the combined weight of me and my steel steed is probably equivalent to 3 roadies and bikes! :)

I know the routes out of Dundrum pretty well so we should be fine!
Longer and flatter cycle suits me perfectly!

May be there, depends on state of hangover. What are you proposing as a long and flat run?

Come on out anyway - worst comes to worst you can turn back at any stage but you'll be fine.

I did Dundrum-M50-Stepaside-Enniskerry-Glencree, and back the exact same way last week. On 4 hours sleep and about 12 pints the night before. Worst bit was I missed out on dinner so between lunchtime and my 2am kebabs I was just on the beer. I felt great on the ride, weather really helped (a good breakfast and copious amounts of water were necessary :))

I'm happy to re-do the same route if it suits you folks.

I'll try and make it if that's ok - I need a guide out from Dundrum to Wicklow too.

I'm thinking of doing Athenry to Ballyvaughan and back (about 110km) at a nice handy pace, stopping for coffee, maybe lunch, handy pace on a hybrid if anyone is interested. Prolly wont set off till lunch time.

I'd like to come along too if I'm not too late. Not sure where exactly in Dundrum you are taking about though?

The usual meeting point is under the Luas bridge at the junction of Taney Road and Dundrum Road.

    Won't be able to join in.Working tomorrow.

    As requested:
Spot elderflower bush at the top of a decent climb.
Bust a gut trying to get there as fast as possible.
Fill pannier bag with florets, picking slowly and carefully to allow ragged breathing and racing heart to recover and wierding out your fellow riders.
Spend rest of the ride in recovery mode - you don't want to bruise the delicate florets with any reckless descending either.
Arrive home after several hours to neglected family announcing "Look what I've got for you!". Cue general bemusement.

Tip florets in a pan, along with a bag or more of sugar, zest and juice from a couple lemons. Tablespoon of citric acid can be added - a bit more helps retard fermentation. Cover with cold water, bring to the boil and leave for 24 hours.
Bottle in sterilised screw top or grolsch type bottles. Allow 2 weeks to clear in a dark place, will improve with age. WARNING! May ferment, in which case you will either end up with elderflower champagne or a sticky mess of shattered glass.

Enjoy with iced water and/or vodka. Also complements rhubarb very nicely.

well I might aswell piggy back this thread if thats ok, just back from my spin Athenry-Ballyvaughan and back. It was beautiful all the way down but a nasty head breeze. I flew home with a tail wind but got absolutely destroyed in monsoon, lightning, thunder etc. Ahhhhh a hot shower, I just kept thinking about the hot shower. Nicest hot shower I have ever had.

On the way back, a sheep dog was on the road behaving really erratic. He came over to me and then baulked across the road. Then a tractor came in the opposte direction with a round bailer in tow. The dog ran in under the tractor and then under the bailer. I watched in horror as the driver had no clue. I roared at the driver and finally got the guy to stop. The dog was right under the inner wheel at this stage, if he hadn't been run over, he would have been crushed against the ditch/wall.

I was now off th ebike, in front of the tractor, calling the dog to try and get him out from under the wheel. He came to me but ran back in and tried to climb the steps into the cab. The driver then opened the door and let the dog in. I asked yer man if he'd look after the dog and he said he would.

Poor old dog was terrified of the thunder that was in the air at the time. He's one lucky mut tonight, seriously right now he should be road-kill. It felt great that the poor old thing was saved and even rescued.

    That's a mad story KS!

    Thanks for the recipe John!

I had a good spin, paddy last on the climbs as I well expected (thanks for the patience lads). Good fun on the descent, pity it was wet!

I watched the Lions match in town, then as it was beautifully sunny after, decided to head to Phoenix Park for a spin. Saw two tourists with a mechanical, stopped to check if they were ok. Turns out they had rented the bikes and the rental co had given them a pump but no repair kit. Also the tyres were so flat they got a pinch flat going up a small kerb. I fixed that and they wanted to buy me a beer (2 actually - one for each hole in the pinch :)), so had a couple of Bulmers at the Hole in the Wall.

Just home, long day but shortish mileage, ~70km I think.
