I just thought i'd tell people about it.
I just got them put in there last saturday, and they're amazing.
theyre the best extensions i've ever had, (i wore clip ins for a long time and got them done in a crappy shop in town where they plaited the hair but came out afer a week)

They should last for up to 3-4 months with good care, and when you get them done you get free shampoo's and conditioners with a special brush for the extensions.

Now on the website it says 700quid but i got a half head done, which cost me 350.

I'm really happy i did it and i feel much better about myself and more confident.

    heres the website: http://www.naturellesalon.com/

And the people who work there are lovely :):pac:

    Hey,

It's great that you're happy with your extensions and I know they make you feel really sexy and womanly. I was addicted to hair extensions but have learned the hard way the damage they can cause. Even when you're told that the method they use doesn't damage your hair (ie micro ring) it does.

Not to put a dampener on your hair which I'm sure is lovely but I had to rpely to this cause they destroyed my hair. If you get them once or twice it's fine, enjoy them but please please do not keep on getting them. Use treatments the entire time you have them and make sure a pro takes them out.

I would advise anyone considering extensions to get clip ins as they cause no damage. My hair was once long and thick and now it's thin and frail and it upsets me everyday. Extensions are to blame:(

Micro-ring, especially getting a half head of them, cause barely any damage to your hair, certainly way way less than bonding or glueing in extensions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 267 ✭✭Koushki

they didnt use micro ring they used like protein or something? :)

I've worn microring extensions for years without a break and my own ahir is perfect, they haven't damaged it at all, and I was really worried about the damage at the start.
I highly recommend www.ourlittlesecret.ie the girl that does mine is great, PM me if you want her number.
I have heard awful horror stories about glued in (protien?) extensions tho, I had them a few times myself when I was younger.

Yes, "protein" is the term used for the glued extensions (also called bonded extensions).

I am saving up for new extensions at the moment (I wear clip ins) can't wait!

I have extensions in at the moment and I cannot wait to get them out.
They feel terrible in my hair, like wool, and I have to be so extra-extra-careful. I miss the days of being able to wash/brush/style my hair whenever I damn well please.

I've had the bond ones in about 3 times...
Worse thing in my life taking them out.
Decided to take them out myself... the 3 times ( I should have learned after the first time but taught after first time Id be more experienced)
I ended up cutting some of them out!

My hair still isn't recovered 4 months later!!

I just remember how good it felt to brush my hair after 4 months of having them in:pac:

I loved my long hair but don't think i cud face taking them out....

Girls, get the micro-ring ones next time, you don't even notice they're there after a day or so, you can dye them and use heat styling on them, and they don't damage your hair.

No way on earth would I get the glue/protein bonded extensions.

Where can ya get them done? How much would the cost? How long would they last?

    Thats all my questions:pac:

I don't like micro rings...my friend has them and she's spent a fortune on them in several different salons including Hairspray in town and they always end up falling out.

I like the sound of the cinderella ones...if only I wasn't broke :(

you're not supposed to take them out yourself. And cinderella are not the normal glue in ones - they are prebonded with a special protein bond - not glue - and can be removed without damage to your hair with special remover (not acetone) in a salon only.

Ladies, these strand-by-strand methods of hair extensions have huge potential to cause damage to your hair. Almost your entire scalp is supporting all this extra hair 24/7. You have hundreds of these strands attached to hundreds of your own strands. Not only that but you have the friction of the bonds rubbing against your scalp. Look up "traction alopecia hair extensions" on Google and you'll see the effects these extensions can have. Not to mention you now have to wash and dry all this extra hair every time you wash your own. You're far better off getting clip-in extensions. I have worn them for about 2 years with no damage to my hair, and they look very natural- they don't get the "stringy" look of the individual stranded extensions. You can remove them whenever you like (great on a really hot day!) and they only have to be washed and dried every now and then. Plus one batch of hair will last for months and months and you won't need to go to a salon for maintenance or top-ups. If you want to wear them 24/7 you can get special tapes to tape them in which last for a month or so. Plus you only have to pay for the cost of the hair and the clips which is about 70- 120 depending on how thick your natural hair is (mine is really thick so I need 2 packs of hair).

I don't live in Ireland anymore but I paid £200 for a half head at the end of May here in Edinburgh and they're still looking great.

Beauty101 - it sounds like your friends extensions were either badly applied using poor quality micro-rings, or she is using the wrong shampoo and conditioner on her hair. You have to be REALLY careful what hair products you use when you have micro rings. For instance, using Pantene will virtually guarantee the extensions will slip out of the ring and fall out, because Pantene coats your hair in silicone and makes it "slippery".

I know several girls with extensions and none of alopecia as a result...maybe because they only get half heads (but that's still around 100 extensions!) done. But a lot of people think their hair has fallen out "because" of the extensions, purely because the hair that would naturally fall out on a day to day basis has been trapped within the extension, so that when they are removed, it looks like loads of your hair is falling out with them. But it's just an "illusion".

How did you get on with these Koushki? I assume you've had them removed by now, how was your own hair afterwards? Did you get another set put in?

Eh sorry but can you not just grow your own hair?
Okay okay so I understand if you have short hair and you want long hair immediately, but for the girls who are wearing them 'for years'...........has your hair not grown??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭Jessica-Rabbit

I sometimes wear micro ring extensions and I put them in myself. it takes a lot of time and practice but I would advice everyone who wears extensions to try the micro rings and put them in yourself.. there are lots of videos on how to do it on youtube.. like i said it takes ages but you will save a fortune

    You're a man, aren't you?

I get hair extensions because my hair is not very thick and also won't grow much longer than shoulder length. I have tried to grow it but for whatever reason it won't grow beyond a certain length. Oh, and also because it's my personal choice.

You must have arms of steel to be able to put your OWN in! How do you get the placement right? How long does it take you to put a whole set of extensions in?

I was thinking of doing this but I would be worried because the thing with strand by strand extensions is the placement and the skill when they are applied. If they are applied incorrectly, for example if a strand of extension hair is applied to tightly or is too heavy for the strand of real hair it's bonded to, it can really strain your real hair.
Where do you buy the hair and tools?

You would probably have a head start on this etho because you already wear micro links and the positioning and placement of them has been done by a professional. If you got a pliers, when your roots grow out you could re-open the bead and then just slide the extension up over the new growth. Or if you wanted to use new hair, you could remove and then re-apply to the same parts of your natural hair as you go.

There's some forums where people who DIY their extensions post their techniques and experiences:

    http://www.diyextensions.net/viewforum.php?f=1

    http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=34

There are many many websites selling everything you'd need to do micro link extensions from scratch- the I-tipped strands of hair, the threading loop, the pliers, the micro links themselves.

This seller on eBay sells everything you need for a whole head, I am soooo tempted although I would be wary of the quality of the hair given how cheap the price is. Having said that I only buy whatever hair is in the Carribean shops in Dublin city and iit's pretty cheap but it's grand!

I had the glue in extensions in a few years ago and it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life! Almost destroyed my hair, was not worth it at all!! Since then ive toyed around with clip in ones and cant really say enough about them! They're just so handy to use and its lovely to be able to just pop them out of the end of the day! I really dont think i could be bothered with micro ring or protien bonded extensions- it just seems like more stress than its worth!

I really can't stress enough how ...stress-free...micro-rings/links are. Mine took 2.5 hours to be fitted and personally I won't need them adjusted for about 3 months (my hair grows pretty slowly).

The only changes I have had to make is to stop using shampoo + conditioners that contain silicone (causes the bonds to slip), and I air-dry my hair as much as possible. I actually spend LESS time on my hair now.

I was in there today. They're really expensive for the amount of hair you get. However their synthetic hair looks great, really natural looking- it doesn't look like doll hair.
I got 75gm of human hair (three quarter head) from Not To Worry on Talbot street for 35 euro. I only ever buy hair from the Carribean shops and it lasts for months and months.

lol it takes around six hours. I normailly set aside a full day to do it. I uses two full lenght mirrors to it . I put one on the wall behind me and the other infront of me so I can see what Im doing at the back.. like I said it takes practice , when I started it took ages but now its a bit easier. I dont do it in one go i take breaks inbetween hence why it takes a while

Magenta I bought the tools and hair from hairspray.ie. I used to wear their clip in's . I just ring and order the amount of hair and colour that I need. On thier website they give a price on their stock and provide next day delivery although it costs extra. I would advice you to try it. They sell you 100% real hair so it lasts and you can wash it ect. Once you get good at it you will save yourself a fortune,

I might just save it up, get it done once professionally and then from then on do it myself, following the placement the salon used. :)
How long have you been doing your own now?
I'd love to see some photos :)

Oh my God I put my new hair in last night- I sewed the new hair onto the wefts I already had and now have 150g of hair extensions which is a head and a half!!! I still have another quarter head sitting there and am debating whether to stick that in too... then I would be wearing 1 and 3/4 heads of extensions... Thank god they are clip ins and I can take them out to wash and dry my own hair, that's what puts me off the micro links.

Ladies I have discovered a couple of things that are AMAZING- saw them in the Terrisales salon supply shop on Abbey st and thought I'd give them a go, they're brilliant!
    1. Boar bristle brush (7.20 euro)- it's BRILLIANT for extensions, it smooths them into shape without pulling on them!
So you can put it all up into a high ponytail really easily. I had been using a plastic paddle brush before this and while it's great for detangling the ends it tends to pull on my roots a lot.

    2. Bungee hair elastics (6 euro for pack of about 8)

    lg_bungee_cord.jpg

These are amazing- when you have all your extensions in a ponytail, rather than trying to loop all that ponytail through a regular bobbin, you hook the bungee elastic into it and just wind it round the ponytail and fasten it. They hold the ponytail way more securely than a regular bobbin and you don't have to worry about them snapping or not stretching enough!

Not sure what you mean by this? Maybe it's different with glued in extensions (i've never had them) but when I wash my hair ALL of it gets cleaned, my own hair and the extensions.

Have you tried the "tangle teezer"? (http://www.tangleteezer.com/)
It's fantastic for extensions (and real hair) as it doesn't pull or break the hair. It was designed for parents with kids who are afraid of having tangles brushed out of their hair but it works just as well on adults :)

I don't wash my extensions as frequently as my own hair, I take them out so I only have to wash and dry my natural hair :)
If I had micro links I would have to wash all the extra hair every time I want to wash my own.
