I have a script for a 6 part mini series that I think would be very popular on Irish TV. How would I go about selling this script? Production companies or directly approach someone in RTE?

    http://www.rte.ie/commissioning/

RTÉ have now announced a rolling commissioning round meaning no deadlines for producers.

www.iftn.ie will give you a good guide to whos who in Irish TV and the main Drama producers, e.g. parallel (The Clinic) and Accomplice (Pure Mule) and Grand Pictures (Paths To Freedom).

You should insure that your script is in the correct script format, otherwise they will not read it.

would you have an idea how much would rte be willing to pay for a good relevant comedy script?

They've no money at the moment, but if the script is good enough, it should stand on its own merits and if it's worthy of money it should get money.

Money should be no object to either yourself or RTÉ or the Production company.

You should find out what a scriptwritter expects to earn for a script. I know that the IFB/BSÉ give grants for some scripting projects, around 12,000 just for development work.

Is the comedy really that good?

Nothing, if they can get away with it. It's said to be about €5,000 - €7,000 for a half-hour comedy with the same again payable if it gets shot.

However RTE, even when they had money (and look what they spent it on), will do everything in their power to not pay new writers.

RTE have a terrible reputation for screwing over writers and independent producers but since they have a monopoly and a ever-growing blacklist people can't speak out against them except on anonymous internet boards like this, where nothing you say will ever be taken seriously.

If your script is good enough, bring it to a British broadcaster. Don't let RTE near it. The best you could hope for is them to reject it, and two months later you'll spit blood at the tele when you see they have made an in-house rip-off of it written by one of their golf buddies and starring a Sunday Independent "celebrity".

I would go about selling it to rte, let them make you an offer, meet their producers, let it be cast and when it's about to be shot, say "only jokin" and then take it over to tv3.

And what would TV3 do with it? I don't think they know how to produce proper TV yet they are only 10 years old after all :D

That sounds like a lot for RTE. For a six part mini series they may pay between 5k-7k per episode?

Sounds a bit extreme, especially for someone with no background or experience. That said, if it's good enough you never know what might happen.

If I were you, I would go to a production company or find someone to co-write it with. Again, if it's big enough, you'll find people no problem.
