i am 24 and i just had a browse at the grant application form and it seems that the parents income section has to be filled in no matter what. i am not dependant on my parents and have not been for a number of years. does this section have to be filled out or if i leave it blank will that cause problems for my grant application?

    any advice appreciated.

If you're over 23 and can prove you're not living at home (ie rent receipts and utility bills etc.), you're classed as a "mature independent candidate" and don't have to provide your parent's details. If however you're still living in the same house as them you're automatically classed as a dependent, even if you're paying bills.
