Do any of you know which bluetooth usb adaptor/dongle for use with a laptop is the best. I imagine there are some with better speeds than others. I bought one of these or hooking up my calander on my nokia, and its v slow. So i imagine it would be brutal for Tethering.

It's apparently possible to get linux to network over Bluetooth to the iPhone.

If you are going to go to the trouble of plugging a dongle into a laptop, then pairing to the phone in order to tether, why not just plug the iPhone directly into the computer?

Yes definately the best option because it's obviously going to charge the iPhone at the same time and it's only one little cable.

If you want to use it with Bluetooth, I highly suggest investing in an actuall bluetooth card for your laptop. What is the make and model of it?

Excuse my butting in here - but I've got an Iphone 3G with the updated software 3.0 and I called O2 yesterday to ask them how I connect to "tether" and the guy told me that its not possible on their phones as they've decided not to provide the service.

Can anyone advise if this is correct, or if there's a way to tether to my laptop?

I've got 7 months left on my original O2 contract.

Thanks - and apologies again if I've gone slightly off the OP initial topic - this is the closest I've found to my question.

    It's easy - http://help.benm.at/help.php

Go to the above link on your iPhone > Mobile Configs > Ireland > O2 / O2 Prepaid > Thats it!

presumably you would leave the dongle in the laptop and pair once. Then every time the phone was within range you could use tethering to surf web from the laptop without having to do anything else.

So it is could be pretty handy.
