Dauphin 248, 10 years later...

    This day 10 years ago, the crew of Dauphin 248 died whilst returning from a SAR mission down in Waterford. Although it took far, far too long for these men to be honoured properly, their sacrifice showed exactly the type of men they were and the kind of people we should strive to be.

    The crew members of Dauphin 248 are as follows:

    Captain David O’Flaherty DSM
    Captain Michael Baker DSM
    Sergeant Patrick Mooney DSM
    Corporal Niall Byrne DSM

    I was on watch on a ship on station at the Kinsale Gas field and heard all of it on channel 16. I could not believe they were asked to escort the trawler to the key wall. I was devastated the next morning. Brother in law is in Air Corp and new the lads well.
