Length of dress for wedding

I'm heading off to Italy for a wedding in 2 weeks. I bought a lovely dress for it. It's a full length blue haterneck in a jersey type material. The problem is my mother has said as I'll be the only other woman (along with the bride) wearing something that long that I'll look like a bridesmaid or that I'm trying to compete. There won't be any bridesmaid as it's a small wedding. I'm feelin quite conscious of this now even though the bride has seen me in the dress and loves it! Thanks ma! Does anyone here think it'll look odd? Thanks

Ah, mothers! No, you won't look like a bridesmaid as the dress is made of jersey and also you won't be standing next to the bride all day clutching a bouquet of flowers and arranging her train!

I was coming out of the changing room in TK MAXX a few weeks ago with a maxi dress in my hand, the lady who was attending the changing rooms said to me "Ohhh isn't that beautiful, are you going to a ball!!" she obviously thought because it's a long dress then it must be an evening gown (Had colourful print allover it, definitely didn't look like an evening gown!!)
Moral of the story.. some people just don't have a clue!!!

The dress sounds lovely and definitely wouldn't look odd!! :)

More and more people are wearing full lenght dresses to weddings now - go for it

Personally, I don't like full-length - I find it quite aging. But having said that, I don't see any reason at all why you couldn't wear it to a wedding. If the dress looks well on you, just go for it!

Long dress will be perfect. I wore a maxi dress to a wedding in Italy a couple of weeks ago and so did a few other people. I can imagine my own mother saying the same thing!

Go girl! I'm wearing my maxi-dress to a wedding tomorrow. Love it, it hides a multitude of sins and I only have to tan my feet and ankles :D

I thought you were going to ask how short a dress could be ha...definitely go with a maxi dress it sounds lovely.

There is nothing wrong with wearing a long dress to a wedding, and like the previous poster I thought you were going to ask how short, lol. Go for it, if you're comfortable in it, and the bride as already seen it, so no problems there. One of my cousins at my brother's wedding last year had a long dress than I did, and I was a bridesmaid :p

On the opposite end of things, how short is appropriate for a wedding. I am going to a wedding in two weeks, my dress is mid/lower-thigh... Is it too short. Having said that, it doesn't show any cleavage, so everything isn't out on show... any ideas???

That sounds perfectly fine.I havn't been to a wedding myself recently but someone who has was telling me that most of the girls at it wore short dresses. Like you said, once everything isnt on show then you can pull it off.

I have a wedding coming up and I am wearing a fairly dressy halter neck dress. Any advise on what hairstyle I should go for?

I have very dark stright hair and would like a change.I was going to get GHD curls instead. In saying that alot of people recommend getting an upstyle if wearing a halterneck. Im on 2 minds because Im not sure if an upstyle plus the 'dressy' dress will look too formal but then again will wearing my hair down take from the dress.

    Any advise

Sherah, I know where you are coming from- how about loose curls, maybe swept up a bit, or a low set up do, that way you wont take away from the halterneck-but it will look less formal??
