They're now rolling it out into the suburbs, adding another 300 hire stations and 3,300 bikes.

Proof positive that the scheme is a failure.

Great news for cycling. Even better news for JC Decaux who have managed to pass the cost of the vandalised bikes on to the city of Paris.

They should do the same here, unless they're too busy not removing their billboards of course.

    Pig in a poke.

Yes, it's an unmitigated disaster. Is that why they are adding 300 hire stations and 3,300 bikes?

Looks like someone forgot to put on their sarcasm specs :)
You should've been here a week ago.... Kona was preaching from the hilltops about how the paris velib had failed.

I guess I'm so used to people calling it a failure it blinded me to the sarcasm. :)

disaster? sorry just back from barcelona where they have a similar setup as they are planning for dublin and its a huge success, everyone is using the bikes and they have drop off points all over the city, if they can get that to work in dublin it would be amazing, was in barcelona a few years before they had the scheme and you can really notice the differnce now, the city is transformed, fantastic idea, just need to deal with the scumbags that destroy all aspects of irish life but as far as the bikes go fair play to whoever gave it the go ahead and good luck

by the way the bikes in barcelona may not be carbon fibre ultegra equipped machines but they are perfect to suit all walks of life, sturdy with lights, mudguards and solid wheels . enough to do the job.
