Am in noway looking for medical advice first of all so pls dont delete thread if possible.

Am going through a bit of a stressful time at the moment. Am trying to look after myself, eating, sleeping etc. But I get very very anxious.

I dont have €50 to go see a GP. I mean I do but not to waste i.e. just enquiring/advice he charges for (robbery!) but I just want to talk about it first, see if anyone has any advice or been on meds. Am not going to self medicate or anything.

Anyways, as said am going through a stressful time. The anxiousness and tightness that takes hold of me I used to be able to handle, but not at the mo.

    My questions are:

    1. Is anxiousness the same as depression? I wouldnt call myself depressed - I just have alot on my plate at the moment.

    2. Has anyone been on anything before like this and was it ok? (i know it differs for all).

    3. Im also open to alternative medicine so is there anything else out there?

    Tnks.

No, they are not the same. While some people will experience them together or as parts of something else, they are two separate, identifiable issues.

While time usually resolve these things, having somone along to explain things and help you through the worst parts is better than trying to struggle through it by yourself. With someone there, it mean the lows won't be as deep or as long.

Alternative medicine = bad, complimentary medicine = good. Complimentary medicine is taking the best of both, but realise that a lot of alternative medicine means ignoring scientific advice and relying on tradition and sometimes hocus pocus.

If things like this are affecting how you get on in life, you need to get some help. Can I suggest that the €50 might be money well spent? There are supports out there for people on low to middling incomes and there are support groups like www.AWARE.ie that are essentially free.

Check out this book "The Feeling Good Handbook" by Dr. David Burns..... there are suggested ways to untwist your thinking.

    It is money well spent.....

I was in a panic earllier today - did an exercise which is mainly writing down the event/your worries and it gives you a way to work through the problem rationally.

The book was recommended to my by a psychologist years ago and I still use it to this day.
