How many times will the ad be played, how many ad breaks. How many seconds of an ad do you get?
Would it be worth saying that its too steep and seeing if they come back to you with a better offer? Ive seen people here on boards talking about advertising with papers and golden pages etc and the advertiser coming back to them with prices 1/3 less than the original and in some cases half the price just cos they want the business.
Also bear in mind the tv ads are the time most people get up to use the loo and get a drink etc during the match, but again the numbers watching in general should be very high so you will have to weigh that up.

to be honest, I dont know if it would be any good, most people go and make tea!! or get another beer!

I have sky plus and fast forward every single ad, have not seen an ad in a year and a half! bliss, they say radio advertising hits quite a lot if its repeated often enough, that tv ad would be a split second you would want to be advertising continuously to get any benefit from it. Thats in my honest opinion

For your money, they'll lash up a pdf ad on screen and do one of their in house voice overs over it - SH1TE!
I'll be totally totally lost in the ad sequence - my advice is NO.

Surely you have to consider what your company sells, and what your margin is?

    Bic Biros ... No

    Lamborginis ... Maybe?

Thats a pretty specialised product, how many purchasers do you think may see your ad?

Then compare that if you advertised in a specialist trade publication, conference, picked up the phone and called people.

Eg, if you take the 1,200 and use it pay for business lunches with potential customers

this money might be better spent at an Ideal Homes Exhibition or a Garden show where you have hundreds of parents with kids who have time to look and feel the product. I dont think this tv advert would be worth it. but of course its up to you. 1200 would be gone in a matter of seconds.

Yep, same for me. I never watch live TV anymore.

And like others have mentioned during a big sporting event (where it's being watched live) then the ad breaks also make perfect toilet/tea/go to the bar breaks as well.

jamesy08 only read the thread now so my response is a bit after the fact. might be useful for others looking to advertise on tv.
tv advertising is expensive, but it works, yellow pages, newspapers, radio you are not going to get any of the impact tv delivers . I do agree with a previous poster, personally think considering the product your best opition is trade shows, exhibitions, etc...
to respond to your post, it is my opinion and i am sure there will be others who disagree but i would not bother with a TV ad unless its at least 30 seconds long, this allows for content, impact and delivery, if you are looking at a 10 second ad unless part of what is called a top and tail(ie top of break and end of break) you are wasting your money, impact is lost etc...
Anything to do with GAA does huge ratings, sure people fast forward the ads and have tea breaks, its live sport the ratings will be huge and your response rate will be high, make sure you have the facility to respond to queries, ie functioning website, phone number that will be answered because you will get calls, a few tyre kickers but it will work..
one of the essentials of buying tv advertising and particularly live sport advertising is making sure you advertise in the best break. to give you an idea, there will be at least 3 breaks before the match, 3 breaks at half time and 4 at end of match, this is minimum. Where you want to be is any of the half time breaks.
i know rte will not say this but they tend to shove all the direct and smaller advertisers into **** breaks, and stack the key breaks with alcohol and strong brands.
finally, because this is turning into a massive post whatever rate you were quoted negotiate the hell out of it, as a suggestion if they have quoted you 1200 for one spot, see if they will give you one spot in this match and maybe a spot in halftime break of one of the qualifiers, where there wont be as much demand, for the same price.
hope it works out for you.

I would think this is the worst possible spot you could go for, half time is the longest break and is where eveyone stretches their legs, goes to the loo, gets a beer, makes a sandwich or whatever. You are straight away losing out on most of the people watching if you go for a half time break, you would be better off with the break nearest to kick off if any as people are ready and waiting and know the games going to start soon.

all the ads between that game were for very very high profile products like guinness, or lucozade or bulmers or something there were no 'small' guys advertising and to be honest it would have looked out of place, I cant imagine anyone going oh look theres some furniture for my back garden let me take down the number from this 30 second ad. sorry it doesnt wash with me, this guy needs trade shows

I think TV advertising is a no go for small and start-up businesses. You just can't buy the volume of ads needed to make any sort of impact. If you need to advertise use Google AdWords because you can target it at your niche and it's performance based.

For a niche product like yours, people will actively look for you. Inbound marketing not interruption marketing is what you need.
