howya, read your post on the other thread. are you with a big 5? my app'ship isnt starting till next year but interestingly my firm dont particularly want me doing it though i still think ill give it a go. was told its being oversold to graduates and is of no substantial benefit unless you go to practice in the US but the employment situation is dire there at the moment also.
the best prep course is friary law-about 5k. alternatively you can buy the barbri books online and study yourself-probably what ill do if i decide to sit it.
i think griffith and independent to prep courses too-dont know much about them-check out the websites

Apparently the Independent Colleges NY Bar Course had a 100% pass rate in this February's exam, and all but one of the candidates were taking it for the first time.

    Hi,

I was wondering about the New York Bar exam, too. I have heard that a couple of places offer courses like Independent Colleges, Friary and Griffith College, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I hear through the grapevine that Friary didn't have such a great pass rate and I was hoping that someone might have done the course and exam and could offer some advise.

    Any information would be appreciated!

Just wondering if anyone is currently studying for these items and how hard they are finding it? Is the course very broad? Honestly how hard is it, would people consider these exams to be much harder than the FE1's etc.??

The pass rate for foreign students is 77% or there abouts. Its the Yanks who fail it the most. (no surprises there)

In response to the Original Post, just get the notes off someone that's did it before, do plenty of practice exams and set outself on a good disciplined course of study for a couple of months and save your money. Its hard (given the little differences) but as the stats show - more than managable.

huh...interesting...well i was told 77% by friary law...maybe they meant 77% of foreign students whose first language is english...maybe the 34% represents those whose first language is something other than eng

Got it last July - hard exams but I did them after a couple of months studying and when working full time (and I'm no genius).

If you have the notes I don't see what paying decent money for one of the taught courses adds other than discipline and if you're easy on yourself at all I suppose they would be something you should look at.:pac::pac::pac:

The Independent Colleges had a 100% pass rate in February 2009.

Overall the statistics say that 37.1% of foreign educated students passed the exam in New York. So you're better off taking a preparatory couse.
