I have a 2004 VW Golf TDi and have a problem with the rev counter. It works up to about 3,000 rpm, then it sticks and either goes back to zero or goes forward to the other side of the dial. Obviously the revs don't follow the needle, it's just a bit irritating. Anyone have any idea why this is happening ?

Sounds like a problem with the dash cluster. If it was the engine speed sensor then I'm sure you'd have other problems.

Have it hooked up to a diagnostic tool and have the dealer perform a fault check and a final control diagnosis on the dash cluster.

Ok, will do. Car is going in for a VW service soon, will get them to check.
Thought it might have been an easier thing to try and sort myself ! Thanks
