I can only imagine! He was fantastic for the random stories during class.

You'll also feel compelled to take notes about his life story in your first lecture with him. Don't think I learned that much social studies during the semester, but at least I have the names of his parents, grandparents and his place of birth :)

Not forgetting the time he bought socks in Walmart and still has them to this day thanks to the outstanding cotton they use! Haha

    Not for first year.
Oodles of moodley module options in 2nd and 3rd year though.

Where are CS students supposed to go on the Monday? The orientation schedule doesn't seem to mention us 'til Wednesday.

Cept for the night time events!

You can go to them of course, they start on Monday at 8pm!

Nope, just 6 core modules in each semester.

    Still no timetables yet

Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting my timetable.

Is it mostly continuous assesment in this course?

11 of the 12 modules are continuous assessment yeah. That could be anything from having a mini editing assignment on Photoshop every week to 1 or 2 essays for each module.

For history and structure of the media 20% of your mark is based on an essay you do around Easter, while the remainder goes to your only exam which is around mid-May, but even then you're going to given a complete list of questions coming up in the exam a week or two beforehand.

I'm really looking forward to starting! I hope I'm not in over my head. I can barely change something to B&W on photoshop. Are all you first years technical geniuses? (geni-i :P)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 439 ✭✭Jammy

I'm no technical genius. But if I get shown how to do something I usually pick up on it!

I'm just hoping I'll be able to get most of the programmes on my laptop okay!

I love editing film work, but I can't afford any of the programmes!

That won't be a problem in first year - you won't need to have your own - the editing projects are too small.

Final Cut is used by DCU - I don't think that is available for the Windows platform.

You don't have to be a wizard with the software - they teach you as if you haven't a clue!

does anyone know when the timetable will go online??

    That's a relief because I genuinely haven't a clue!

I can barely open photoshop Sarah never mind edit a picture so you're a genius compared to me :pac:

Haha :) Nope, not even close. I've just been computer obsessed for like 8 years...making me a total nerd (with bad eyesight!)
    I'm very excited now!

Is everyone going to the night time events during the week? Could someone explain them to me? I'm kind of confused

Lock and key night: Girls get locks, boys get keys. Much lols going around trying to find the key that fits your lock. Meeting new people. Having fun. Finding your match, falling in love?

County colours night: Wear your counties GAA jersey or closest thing to it. Lol about GAA rivalries. Meet people in college from your county (or country). FAll in love?

Orientation Ball: This year it's Michael Jackson themed. Last year it was 'The Silver Screen'. Dress up if ya like. It's a big deal. On in the Helix. Loads of people. Drinking and dancing. Love?

Hypnotist: If this is the same guy they had last year, it will ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I never believed in this stuff before, but my own friends were made do the craziest **** they'd never do. Hilarious and also scary. He could probably make you fall in love?

Céilí: Think back to your Irish college days. Except no-one knows what they're doing. Spin around the place with some cailín deas. Love?
