Broken Saddle Rail

A few weeks ago, I was cycling home and felt my right cheek go down. I got off and a quick inspection showed me that the rail on that side of the saddle had broken....a pretty clean break. This was the day after the WW200, now that I think about it.

I've never experienced it before, but is it something to expect out of a saddle with maybe 20000 or 25000 km on it? It was on the Sirrus and it was on a suspension seat post too. The only thing that springs to mind that might have been contributary to it is my saddle bag. I have what looks like the bigger one of the ones in this picture:

I'd often have it expanded and have a rain jacket, spare tube, tyre levers and a small multitool in there. It's a little bit heavy, but nothing excessive, I would have thought.

Any thoughts? (and save the fat b*st*rd comments :D)
