Dumbbell Bargain?

Shipping is €10 on top, so €34 delivered which is not bad, 20kg is €46.79 in argos, 15kg is €39.79.

I got the 20kg set ages ago in argos, the small plates are a bit of a waste for me, I have 4x5kgs on it most of the time, can only fit on 1 more small plate each side.

The Argos bars arent chrome though.

The max weight you can put on the Argos weights is how much?

I don't think those are either, I thought they were since they look shiny, but description is
    Set Includes:
    2 - 13.5 x 2.5cm Threaded chrome dumbbell bars
    4 - Chrome star collars
    4 - 0.5kg Cast Iron plates
    4 - 1.25kg Cast Iron plates
    4 - 2kg Cast Iron plates

    Colour: Silver
It would say chromed plates if they were, sounds like they are painted silver. Argos do chromed plates too, quite expensive. The bar & collars are chromed, so are the argos ones.

Depends, like I have had 80kg on one of them before, it is a solid bar so is not going to break, but the 3x20kg plates I put on are massive diameter so not much use. 5kg plates are about the limit for size, I can fit 4 on and I think I can fit another 2.5kg plate on each side, but then the collar is not fully twisted on. Will have a look later at home.

The bars (I said bars in 1st post BTW) for the dumbells that the OP posted are chrome. It says on the site
    "2 - 13.5 x 2.5cm Threaded chrome dumbbell bars"

Right, so which argos bars are not chromed?

These are the ones I am thinking of.

Do these seem like good weights? i have 5kg ones at the moment but I think I'm outgrowing them a bit.
And does 18kg mean a maximum of 9kg per dumbbell? :o

    They look fine to me.

No, means the entire weight of the set is 18kg

    4 - 0.5kg Cast Iron plates
    4 - 1.25kg Cast Iron plates
    4 - 2kg Cast Iron plates

That is 2, 5, 8 kg, so 15kg in all, so the bars must be 1.5kg each including collars. They are solid bars so will hold plenty, your real limitation is the physical ability to pick up a dumbbell with large plates. I have had over 80kg on similar dumbbell handles, but there is little you can do with them.

I expect with that set you could fit the 4x2kg and 2x1.25kg plates on one dumbbell, giving a 8+2.5+1.5(bar)=12kg you might squeeze some more weights on.

I use 5kg plates on mine, which are about the limit diameter wise for most exercises.
