HD & PVR . . . 2 feeds or 4 ?

When I got Sky+ in last year, the plan was to use it for the year and then cancel. It's coming towards that time and I'm trying to work out what I'm going to need to do/buy/fix.

I know that the Sky+ won't continue recording (boo) when the sub is cancelled, so I plan on buying a new box to replace it and either continue using the basic Sky box in the second room or else use the old Lidl one I have stored away somewhere. Recording on one box at least is a must, so I don't see any way out of replacing the Sky+ box.

I'm not a big HD fan but if I can get it I guess I may as well. I understand it needs 2 feeds from the LNB to work. I understand that recording one channel on the PVR & watching another requires 2 feeds also. Here's the question . . . can I do watch HD & use PVR functionality using the same 2 feeds ? I know I can't do both at the same time, but the question is really to do with the provisioning . . . do I need 2 dedicated to PRV & 2 dedicated to HD ?

    z

p.s. any recommendations for a good spec PVR ? I've seen Humax ones mentioned here a lot . . . but I'm not familiar with the range of devices they make.

    Hi,

I have a Humax Freesat HD PVR and I am extremely pleased with it. For recording and viewing you will only need the two feeds from the LNB which you previously used for the Sky + box. You do not need extra feeds for HD.

Of course the stations received by the Humax will be limited to the free to air stations. For instance it will not receive the four Irish stations but you are probably aware of this.
