Anyone else hear the ad on the radio saying they were playing a gig in December? Got excited when I heard on the radio and started jumping round the room so I missed the details, and now I can't find anything on the net. :(

I can confirm Horslips will play the O2 in Dublin on 5th Dec 2009 with a gig in The Oddessy in Belfast 3 days earlier.

Fantastic news for lads over 40 :D

All confirmed, but drummer Eamon Carr won't be a part of it. his place will be taken by Ray Fean, brother of guitarist Johnny Fean.

I'm f***ing delighted about this, but I'm sorry that Carr isn't with them, 'cos I'd have loved to see them all back doing the twelve-minute version of Furniture.
Oh well, that's what the Dancehall Sweethearts DVD is for, I suppose... :D

2024 Gigs and Events: David Suchet, Depeche Mode, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Smile, Pixies, Liam Gallagher John Squire/Jake Bugg, Kacey Musgraves (x2), Olivia Rodrigo, Mitski, Muireann Bradley, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Eric Clapton, Girls Aloud, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Rewind Festival, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Henry Winkler, P!nk, Pearl Jam/Richard Ashcroft, Taylor Swift/Paramore, Suede/Manic Street Preachers, Muireann Bradley, AC/DC, Deacon Blue/Altered Images, The The, blink-182, Coldplay, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Nick Lowe, David Gilmour, ABBA Voyage, St. Vincent, Public Service Broadcasting, Crash Test Dummies, Cassandra Jenkins.

Take it from me Eamon won't be too far away from the action and I am sure he will don the sticks for a few numbers. The 12 min version of Furniture would be ideal (he did it last year in The Madison in Rathmines at a private function) as would Dearg Doom at the finale.

Yeah, the same thought occurred to me - that he'd sit in for a few tracks. It was great to see the five of them doing an electric set out in RTE for the TG4 special a few years ago. Are they going to bring out the old costumes made of inferior material which have now shrunk? :D

I really hope they do a proper 'rock' set and not any of that recent acoustic stuff. I wasn't mad about that at all.

Given the noise levels that Johnny Fean has playing at for the last 25 years, I don't think you need have any worries there at all. You'll be lip-reading for a week afterwards. It's a two-hour, non-stop full electric show.

    Excellent!

How exactly do you know for sure? Are you involved with the show?

Not involved as such, but I do keep in contact with the band. Sadly, I'll be on the other side of the friggin world. C'est la vie...

I reckon this is one NOT to be missed - I've been saying since Horslips split that they WILL be back.
They proved that there was a GREAT music scene (anyone remember the Red Island gigs in Skerries?) LONG before U2, Riverdance and all the 'modern' stuff.

So WELCOME BACK Johnny, Barry, Eamonn, Jim and Charles - thanks for setting the scene !

Although it's still tricky to decide which is the best album -
    The Táin ?
Dancehall Sweethearts (think 'King of the Fairies' in The Grove, Artane)?
    Book of Invasions ?
    Aliens ?

Got the ticket in the priority sale, cant wait now :)

I've been looking on the ticketmaster website since yesterday morning at about 9.15 and the only tickets that seem to be left are way up in the back to the sides of the hall. Have all the other sections in the front tiered seated area been sold out already or does ticketmaster have some sort of strange sequence of releasing seats for sale. I'm not prepared to spend the top rate on seats which are in row 50+ and off to the sides and I'd prefer not to stand (I'm at that age!)
    Just curious?

Yeah I got Block H,seemed to be the best at the time for 49 euros

I'm holding out for the moment. As much as I'd like to see them, I don't want to be sitting so far back that the sound is synching noticeably behind the video screen. I'll either wait for the next release of tickets or get something from another source. I know I'll get some somewhere, but I'd rather listen to my old vinyl's than be sitting in row 53 somewhere to the side of the hall. Patience . . . . something will turn up . . .

    Tickets arrived last week...

I'll be standing/jumping. One of the young 'uns, you see... :D

Word filtering through that Horslips (inc Eamon Carr) did an impromtu set in Slatterys in Rathmines last Sat night at a party to 'celebrate' the 30th anniversary of the release of their last studio album (in phase I) 'Short Stories Tall Tales'

Youtubers will no doubt be able to see the lads do 'The High Reel', 'Mad Pat/Blindman', 'Trouble with a Capital T' and 'Dearg Doom'.

Roll on the O2s in December.

I was one of the "squad" in the audience giving it loads. Looking so forward to Belfast and Dublin.

Music was pre-recorded but the vocals were live. This is because the studio turns live music into muck.

Priests were so 'Father Ted Rugged Island Euro entry' it was funny.

Any idea what time they'll be on , and who's supporting them ?
I'll be coming up by train and won't get into Heuston until c. 6.20pm

Horslips are doing a 2 1/2 hour set so I'd say 9 pm is a good estimate. I will know more soon and I will post it here.

Was anyone in McHugh's in Drogheda on Thursday or Friday? I was there on Friday. Absolutely killer show. Such a good set list, though there were a few I'd have liked them to have played that they didn't. The arena shows are going to be terrific based on this evidence.

Almost 30 years since their last 'official' gig in The Ulster Hall in Belfast on Oct 12 1980 tonight we will finally see Horslips again.

I am like a dog that has finally discovered that his tongue can reach!

    Bring it on!

Can't wait!! Jim was just on Mooney on Radio1. He was doing the soundcheck at the time. Anybody gonna go for Something Happens before them. He said Something Happens are on at 7:30 and they are on at as close to 8:30 they can.

Tom Dunne mentioned on his show on Newstalk about a 1/2 an hour ago that they are on at 7:30.

    Bring on Saturday.

Who is on at 7.30 , Something Happens or Horslips ?
The doors open at 6.30 don't they , sure they'd never have the Happens on straight away would they ?

It seems, from what Jim said, Happens are on at 7:30 and 'Lips are on at 8:30, possibly before if they can.

Sorry for the confusion in my earlier post :o

Tom Dunne was referring to the Happens of course (I was assuming that everyone knew of his connection with that particular musical ensemble !!)

Was there last night. Will be there tomorrow.

Brilliant stuff. No cobwebs on view at all. The band were in the horrors beforehand. Charles O'Connor has a bad dose, Jimmy Lockhart hurt his hand yesterday when he got clipped by a car and the substitute drummer, Ray Fean, woke up with a sore muscle in his shoulder.

But thanks to the power of otc medicine they made it. And What a show it was. I can post the setlist if any of you wish.
