I'm in the market for a new 2x12 or 4x12 cab..

Have come across Avatar cabs, which seem to be very highly rated in the US.. They are available through an importer in Holland (no prices listed though)..

Has anyone used them? Looking to match up with a Blackstar Ht5 head..

I'm sure they are excellent, but I'm not sure that they are better than stuff that can be found a lot closer to home.

I have found tube-town cabs to be excellent http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/index.php/cat/c158_TTC-Speaker-Cabs.html and they are also probably a lot cheaper than importing an Avatar cab from the US.

Though I'm not sure that the HT-5 will have enough juice to drive a 2 x 12 or a 4 x 12. Even with fairly low wattage speakers in there, I doubt it would be able to get 2, let alone 4, working properly.

It's not going to stretch the cones much, but a 5 watt valve amp will push a pair of low watt 12s just fine.

Yeah it's probably overkill, but I need to get a more versatile cab at minimum cost :)

I currently have a Blackheart 5w head going into a Bogey 4x8 cab.. works great, problem is the cab is 4Ohm only.. which isn't supported by a lot of the heads I want to use.

I wanted a Blackstar 5w head for ages, so decided to get one this week. It doesn't have a 4Ohm option, so I can't use my current cab.
I do have a Ashdown Bass Mini Stack with 2 16Ohm 10" cabs which I was going to use to see how it sounds, but I am looking to get a proper guitar 16 or 8 Ohm cab so in future I can try various heads without any impedance issues.

The 4x12 (and probably 2x12) is overkill, but I wanted to use bigger speakers than the 4x8 I have. It will also allow me to use that single cab for much bigger wattage heads should i need in the future.. I don't gig at the moment, so it will just sit in my home music room so size isn't really an issue.

Problem is finding something decent and cheapish.. The cheaper end Marshall cab's (MG's etc in XMusic) seem to have really bad reviews.. and there doesnt seem to be much for sale on adverts (for 2x12's)..

The other option I was going to investigate was the possibility of rewiring the 4x8 so it was 16Ohms (series to paralell or vice versa)...

The Avatar cabs get great review in the US.. and seem dirt cheap considering they come with Vintage 30's.. I'll give the distributor in Holland a shout.

Well, in case anyone was interested.. I got a response from Holland.. The 2x12 Vintage cab loaded with Vintage 30's was 499 Euro with 49 Euro shipping.. So not that cheap then :)

Luckily enough, a Framus 2x12 with Vintage 30's came up on Adverts for 175 Euro :) Quickly followed by the Blackstar head on Ebay for 225 Euro... Bargain.. Both in mint condition..
