I was very impressed by Japan's hosting of the JWC, they actually filled their stadiums unlike the Welsh last year. Was great to see.

be handy for us Irish I guess in 2015 but would have liked Italy!!

Only downside to the English bid for me is that they plan to use a lot of soccer stadia. That generally means the horrible sight of in goal areas that are only a few metres deep. Don't know why that upsets me, but it does.

they used some soccer stadia in France RWC but did not notice this,

maybe they are bigger in France

I'm really disappointed that England is getting it. Handy & cost effective for us Irish fans of course, but countries like Italy & Japan could really use the surge in domestic interest that hosting a RWC can bring. England certainly doesn't.

If the IRB was indeed concerned with the lack of progress of the sport in Italy (which they damn well should be - Italy seems to be going backwards), surely it would have made perfect sense to stage a RWC there? Plenty of infrastructure, top quality stadiums and generally a great country to visit. Would have been great banter and excellent for the sport.

Yeah - obviously it's not all of them, but many of those used for GP and League games do. Just doesn't look right to me. I think English soccer stadia tend to have the crowd closer to the pitch than on the continent, maybe that's it?

Many of the French stadiums are designed for municipal use - they're built by the town councils as opposed to individual football / rugby clubs and as such are designed to be multiple-purpose, for use in different sports.

Delighted for Japan. They know how to run events properly and will be great to go to(even if I'm 10 years older and my youth is lost!).

So England will have 2012 Olympics, 2015 RWC, favourites for the FIFA WC and Cricket one in 2019 I think. Great for them I suppose and indeed us money wise.

Wouldn't mind hitting Japan for a bit of rugby, was in Hong Kong for the Sevens in March and it was fantastic. England getting 2015 is great news, as Ireland will have big support travelling there.
