Used to work with a guy who went there every summer. He couldnt speak highly enough of the place. So based on his recommendation, it sounds like a lovely spot.

    IBTM.

i have heard nothing except bad stories about bulgaria.

pack of stray dogs everywhere, rubbish thrown everywhere and loads of gypsies hassling when you leave the hotel.

I have been there a few times also and like it. Nice beach, plenty pubs, cheap restaurants, lively nightclubs, etc.
Don't know about going there on your own though, there is a lot of different nationalities there and it might be difficult to mix socially if thats what you are into.
