    Jape

Jape, aka Dubliner Richie Egan, is a precocious talent, hailing from the city suburb of Crumlin. Earlier this year, Richie was rewarded with the Choice Music Prize for his brilliant, genre defying, third record Ritual. It’s an album with so much content nestled in its lush branches! It blends styles from acoustic and electronic music making, swinging from heartfelt soul searching to black humour, Jape has an amazing lyrical touch, conjuring imagery of human heads, graveyards, apples, plums and petrified forests. It’s only a matter of time before Jape conquers the world!

    Daedelus

Alfred Darlington isn’t your average cookie-cutter musician. From how he looks (early Victorian Dandism), to how he makes music, to how he expresses himself and views the world, his is a very individual, ‘bespoke’ outlook.
He is famed for his use of the ‘Monome’ & adopts an open book philosophy to creating music. He chose the name Daedelus as he had a childhood obsession with invention, and what was he doing, after all, if not tinkering and fiddling and experimenting like the “gentleman inventors” of old?
Referring to his “Love To Make Music To,” Daedelus says that this album is “the imaginary memory of a time that never was! It’s my drug/love record, harking back to that time in the YMCA in London, when I first heard rave…”

The Red Bull Music Academy in a nutshell

The Red Bull Music Academy travels to a new spot on the globe yearly and sets up a campus equipped with anything anyone would need to take music into new realms. Among places, we've visited in the last decade are Cape Town, Berlin, Melbourne and Toronto, bringing a new group of sixty music lovers along for the ride each time. The Academy is an environment where like-minded peers benefit from the wisdom of well-established producers, DJs, musicians, composers, arrangers and engineers. Studio tips and the secret stories behind the tunes are shared via informal lectures and lab lessons.

    How do you apply?

From May 11th to July 27th this year, the world’s up and coming producers, instrumentalists, vocalists and DJs worldwide are invited to apply for one of two terms at the Academy in London. To provide a taster of the Academy experience, more than 100 Local Workshop Sessions are already being held all around the world. It’s a rare opportunity for beat makers and music lovers to come together and swap inspiration with full-fledged pioneers of sound.

Before, after, or without joining a local workshop, they can simply log in to www.redbullmusicacademy.com from May 11th to download the application form.
