Sperm quality

    I've a question on this article;
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/jun/29/triathletes-cycling-sperm-quality

    I often hear how various actives/lifestyles have an adverse effect on sperm. I'm wondering if this is an effect only on the count and hence the ability to conceive or does it have an negative effect on the offspring? Lower quality DNA!?

    My understanding is that it's just about fertility. If the DNA itself got damaged there would be much less chance of fertilisation occurring. Or at least there would be a very high chance of spontaneous very early miscarriage.

    I think the theory is that the temperature change that the testes are exposed to means the sperm are less motile.

    But there could be new research relating to all this.

    My understanding is the same as Tallaght01s. Various lifestyle choices affect the sperm motility and the ability of the sperm to find their way to the egg. Certain things also affect the ability of the sperm to break into and fertilise the egg.
