I have a relative who wants to be buried with his mother i.e on top of her remains. The problem is his father is buried in the same family grave and under no circumstances does he want to be buried on top of his remains. The problem is that as it is 30 years and 25 years since his parents died, nobody can remember which of the 3 plots of the family grave they are buried in. Are there any records of things like this?

Yes, the funeral director and the local council should have this information.

That's great. Thanks a million. I knew the council could tell us where a particular grave was but I didn't know they had details on the exact plot within the grave. Lets hope there's someone between father and mother.

Church or funeral director should have those details.

I know in my local church, the first person who died is placed on the side nearer to the church - but maybe thats not the case everywhere.

Also, there are name plates on the coffins in case you are worried if they do dig

They need to have records of this as they can only bury on top after certain number of years etc, some graves are dug for 2 people - some for 3 - so the information they keep is vital.
