Will I be eligible for a grant?

I turned 26 this March and am heading into 3rd year science at NUI Galway. I did not apply to college as a mature student, I just used my points. I did however start college past the age requirement to be deemed ‘mature’, if that matters. So far I have not applied for any grant. I have been living away from home for over a year now with my sister in Athenry (10 miles out from city). I hear you need proof you have been living away from home for over a year, all I have are bank statements dated from 31st Oct 2008. Do you think I can apply for any grant for next year.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
