I saw a shooting star today, it was a long brilliant spear of very white light with a hint of blue green, it lasted only a second and was gone without leaving a trail in a clear blue sky. I was quite astounded.
No follow up bang to accomapany it, so it must have been far away?

I'm in Morocco, at the time (08:53) I was near the Atlas mountains.

It is more likely that you saw the reflection of a satelites solar panels.

If it only lasted a second and looked like a line in the sky could've been a meteor alright. Wish I seen it meself!

Ya prob a very small meteorite burning up- sure its difficult to see the moon through the blue sky-nevermind a star millions of light years away!

Amazing. Though it could have been an iridium satellite, they flare regulary during daylight hours. Fascinating either way, wish I'd seen it! Bet the skies are clearer in Morocco than they are here atm:rolleyes:

Yep, I had a camera with me and all, was snapping a few shots of the local nature, but I was so stunned by the "laser beam" that I forgot what my name was never mind to photograph it, but even if I had kung-fu camera skills I had very little time to frame/focus/shoot. I'd love to see a photo of something to compare it to, and say "yeah that was it!".
Then I could get on with my life :)

Yeah, I have the scope over here with me too, and up the mountains the skies are amazing. Saw the milky way like I had never seen it before, lots of clusters to enjoy in there. (added photo below)

But tbh honest, I fell in love with the moon in the last few months, I have taken a good few "ok" shots... still trying to perfect technique to get Great shots, so that's what I'm focussing on.
