I'm looking to get a portable media player for a long flight i'll be going on in a few weeks. Thing is I want to get one that has either A) a 10hr+ battery life or B) An easily removable battery so I can swap in a second one when it dies mid flight.

Any suggestions? I've been looking at the Archos media players but they all have soldered in batteries. Is this the norm?

Very much so, these days they're all built in.

You'll find it very difficult to find any PMP with a 10 hr+ video battery life (or were you talking about 10+ for music?)

No 10+ hrs for video. I understand it's not really possible which is why I'd like the option of a removable battery pack.

Been looking through the options on pixmania and pretty much all of them have built in batteries. I'm starting to think I should just get a netbook and buy an extra battery pack for that.

I'd prefer the portability of a PMP though. So if you know of some exotic make that allows for the battery to be easily swapped out I'd really appreciate it.

All I can think of right now that comes sort of close with 7hrs vid batt is the Cowon O2, I do think you'd be better off all round with decent netbock like the Samsung NC10.

You can get backup portable power packs that will extend the run-time, I use them on long haul flights.

You can either get a backup pack that will run off AA batteries or one that you charge up via USB/mains before leaving home.
    Check Dealextreme.

The Archos 705 has a removable battery but I don't know if you'd consider it "portable" as such.

ended up getting a Dell Mini 10v laptop. I'm actually on it at the moment in Thailand. It worked out perfect, it has about ~5hr's of battery life watching movies with the 6 cell battery and the wifi and LAN turned off with the brightness at the lowest setting, I also bought a spare 6 cell battery which gives me about 10 hours of usage.

Ended up watching the first few episodes of Hung and Lie to me, as well as a few movies on the flight. Played through some old roms as well.

I'd recommend anyone looking for a portable media player to look into the new ranges of netbooks, they have gotten really cheap and the battery life and flexibility of use where huge selling points for me.
