Card not paired but still works !!!

I always thought that Sky Cards were paired with Sky boxes and wouldn't work in any other box but...

I had a standard old style Digibox with a basic package, no movies or sports.

Then I got a second-hand Sky+ box the other day and I set it up prior to ringing Sky to upgrade to Sky+ and have my card paired. Just out of curiousity I tried to use the system and it worked perfectly. I could get RTE1 and 2, TV3, TG4 etc etc. Naturally the special Sky+ features didn't work but the card worked in a different box without being paired. So now it seems I can put my old box in another room and just move the card about. Maybe this only works if you have no premium channels, but nevertheless could be very useful to holiday home owners.

you will get the basic channels on any sky box you put your card into. It the premium channels like you said that are paired to your box.
